This is not true at all. I'm running Linux and I am alerted by the HDD LED when it lights up and then I realize that I left the BitTorrent client running or something like that. But in regular browsing and using the device, the LED is

Yes. UBS made an _amazing_ deal right here. They bought out their biggest competitor in the country, blessed and assisted by the government, for pocket money. Someone's gonna celebrate on their private yacht after this masterstroke.

As someone who works in Embedded Firmware and integrates WiFi modules: Regulatory Domain or RegDom is usually related to radio emission settings. Each country has certain (subtly different) laws about which radio frequency may or may not be

Imagine having CSAM inserted in your videos, then getting persecuted for it. Oh wait, they already scan for it, good on them.

It warns a few seconds ahead of time. The tsunami appears a few minutes later. What are you gonna do, build a concrete tsunami wall in a couple of minutes?

Have you ever wondered what a "moved-from" object [0] in C++ contains? In Rust, such objects are inaccessible due to enforcement of the compiler. In C++, they are accessible. Have you ever wondered what performance implications th

We don't notice any easing in the embedded devices industry. In fact, things are as bad as they ever were right now.

What do you even mean with "if we allow this precedent to be set"? The precedent has long been set. This man's life is completely ruined, and so is his health. They hunted and imprisoned him for a decade, based on complete bo

Yes, that's normal. If you're not logged in, HN serves you a cached version that is a couple dozen seconds old. That's super fast. If you're logged in, HN has to generate the page based on the previous actions and proper

That's complete bullshit propaganda and you know it. Remember how the govt simply pushed Covid surveillance apps to Android users without their consent? Yeah, try that on a bare Linux phone.

Basically it remains "stuck" in position and completely stops moving, even if I wait 5 minutes. Poking it causes no reaction. I can just pick it up and put it away. It is either dead or it passed out.

The driver situation is super tough. Modern phones are full of proprietary shit and nobody is willing/able to reverse engineer all of this, and things like documentation and data sheets aren't really available.

Isn't the "or any later version" clause super dangerous? What if a party somehow takes over the FSF and publishes a GPLv4 which is completely permissive? This seems like a time bomb. Am I misunderstanding something?

You usually have a Minimum Supported Rust Version (MSRV). Depending on crate this has to be set higher or lower. Of course you try to support old Rust compilers as long as possible, but you will bump it up once in a while. Rust has become f

I am maintaining part of a popular Rust crate. Working on existing Rust code and modifying it is a pleasure. It's a lot of fun and I wouldn't trade it back for C++ in a million years.
