If you want to understand what that feels like, you have to smoke a strong joint. A friend almost lost his mind in panic because he worried this effect might persist.

I think the more important insight is that what you work on is as important as how hard you work. This is especially true in today's world of automation, where things that took one person literally a year can now be done by machines in

What's the difference between AI and 'standard machine learning algorithms'? Seems like they are used interchangeably today. Especially if you count neural nets as a standard algorithm too - which, let's be frank - it is

Yeah, I know about the performance overhead of logging. We have some embedded devices that do minimal logging on flash storage and if you log that you missed a timing on the critical path, it causes you to miss another timing, and this lead

I am really dumbfounded by the pricing. $600 a month for 5GB storage and 50 writes per second?? Meanwhile, a DO droplet is 5$/Mo, has 1TB traffic and 20GB SSD. Am I overlooking something? I agree with most of the points this article ma

I tried to take a frame snapshot with Snapdragon Profiler to be able to make specific comments, but that didn’t work because the app doesn’t have the INTERNET permission listed in the manifest, which is required to communicate with the pro

Yes, indeed I do disagree that women should have the same entitlements as men. I think women should have the same rights and opportunities , but not the same entitlements . I think everyone should work for what they've got, thus

I am writing a game engine and C++'s lack of proper reflection is a real hindrance for a variety of serialisation/deserialisation interfaces, be it networking or saving things to disk and loading them. You just end up writing redu

As a non-native English speaker: Yes (English is my 3rd language). There is a set of simple, clearly defined symbols (ASCII) that make up the URL. It must be like that for URLs to be ever secure. If the URL can be made of tens of thousands

I've said this for years now. This is an old exploit that could be 100% preventable with ASCII-only URLs. I remember, the last time I said this here I got downvoted to oblivion for stating the true and obvious.

I just have to smile. Parallel realtime garbage collector. What do you do, start threads? On an embedded system? What if all the other cores are already occupied with doing something? Do you preempt those threads? There, you lost a couple d

I meant it had a mandatory nondeterministic overhead. I even made an example with the nondeterministic overhead of C++ vectors. Come on, now you're really putting effort into misunderstanding me.

Everything is predictable, given enough information. Except for Laplace's Demon, that's not possible. Aah, I love my daily fix of pedantry, which I reliably find on hackernews.

No no no. Garbage collection has some mandatory overhead. Sure you can do an amortised analysis. Just like pushing into the back of a C++ vector is O(1) amortised... except that every once in a while, the entire vector has to be copied over

My statements are true for most of central Europe. They are also true for large parts of the US. Solid data backs this up. This is not an emotional argument, tick prevalence is a well-researched field with lots of data.
