If this exists and people are willing to buy it then their revealed preferences mean (according to them) this is the best option. If you try to prevent things like this from existing then you are just forcing people into what is by definiti

I think the shift from blackberries to iphones/touch-devices is symbolic of what phones were used for. Blackberry was a work device. So the keyboard was uncompromisable so you could send emails. But the iphone is a consumption device.

Coming from india, is this supposed to be a bad thing? It's embarrassing that they comply with any takedown orders at all.

Adjusting the release-price for inflation seems like a pretty straightforward way to define affordability. What it doesn't account for though is the quality and price of alternatives. In 2007 there was no "budget smart phone"

A good example is one of the classic Computer Architecture class assignments which is to simulate a cache. So the way that looks is you have a stream of memory accesses and you "simulate it" by parsing that file and simulating the

A big one is to just remove the option to be distracted at all. Use an extension to block time-wasting websites on your browser while working. Keep your phone out of reach. Set breaks and try not to pollute your thoughts during breaks (and

I think if you only need it for typing long things, an ipad with a bluetooth keyboard still works just fine.

I do kind of get the argument that this creates a category of crime that only indians can be convicted (or even accused) of. At least, nobody is openly saying that they're opposing the law because they want to do caste discrimination

I think social media really peaked around that time. Social media was on the computer. You would interact with it every now and then, then leave. It was useful for making or keeping in touch with friends. You had the good parts without too

Not to mention smart-watches too, which also do calling and texting. I feel like at least some of these can be consolidated and the only reason they're not is because of arbitrary limits. I don't see any reason the ipad can't

I love e-ink devices. I'm a big fan of the remarkable tablets (despite the drawbacks) and was a big fan of pebble. E-ink was really the perfect tech for smart watches. Always on but still lasts for days or weeks.

Sometimes it helps to look at pull requests/merges on large repos. You can see exactly what the change was, what code was touched, and discussions on those changes so that helps you get a feeel for what's good and bad.

I think the main thing about PIM is that it typically doesn't make sense to do compute on the same die as the memory because it would be too slow to be useful (you're better off going to the CPU for that). But it can make sense wh

I like the idea of using a tablet over a phone just because it's something you have to be a little more intentional about using it. I consider most of the things that smart-phones are used for to be a net-good. Social media is a great

I've been toying with the idea of getting rid of my phone entirely and replacing it with a tablet and an LTE smart-watch. I figure they can handle basically all use-cases better. The watch can handle phone-calls, texts, 2fa, etc any t
