The legs would have to be mounted in such a way that they were hidden by the structure. So they'd have to be at an angle and those in the reflection appear to be vertical.

http://imgur.com/z2FU8 It looks like, given the reflection from the water, that section of the track can't be more than an inch above the floor. If thats true then wouldn't the break have to be somewhere after that point? If I'm missing s

The text after the # is a Fragment identifier. Wikipedia: "In the most common case, the agent scrolls a Web page down to the anchor element which has an attribute string equal to the fragment value.". Basically, fragment identifiers are com

The difference, in this case, between clothes and "your shiny new smart phone" is novelty. Since the subject of the article is the future I don't think the analogy was unreasonable.

Javascript isn't complicated but it does have some ugly boiler-plate. I would love to see C# style lambda's in Javascript. C# style: var item_names = $( "li.menu_item span" ).map( x => x.innerHTML ) JS style: var item_names = $( "li.men

Does _everyone_ in society really need to be working. It seems that as technology advances the number of labor hours required per person would decrease. Maybe only a small percentage of people need to be following a productive passion.

Having an (optional) gui is something "new". The parent post I was responding to asserted that there was nothing new in the editor space since emacs and vi. I just opened vi on my machine and I was unable to select text. Maybe there's a way

emacs and vi are console based editors. I don't understand how anything could get to the point where it could never be made better. In Sublime you can select text with your mouse and on the right there is a graphical overview of the entire

Is Gruber trolling on purpose? His posts that make it to the HN always turn into flamewars. Why is everyone here so interested in what he has to say?

When I hear theft I think of guys in masks sneaking into someones home at night and depriving them of their belongings. Associating illegitimate use of software with theft is misleading. It's like telling kids that marijuana can kill them t

Apple's stance on Flash hurts users _now_. But, I still envy my future self living in a world where Flash is dead. The same can be said about Google hurting users _now_. Pushing content producers towards an open and maintainable format has

I couldn't agree more. I can take a C for about one-fifth the work of an A. I'm usually interested enough to explore the interesting material at depth anyway. I just don't do every tedious assignment.

This is a separate idea, but... The "Chromium-like user interface where tabs can be torn off and moved between windows" would be awesome if it were implemented directly in Mac OSX. Then applications could drop all of that code and just let

Each time a declaration section is added to a selector the contents of the corresponding tag have to be re-stringified. Having a single tag would require the entire style sheet to be rebuilt whenever a rule was modified.

It won't work with that. I'm replacing the (implicit) global window.css with a closure the first time it's invoked. Your modification will cause future css sections to create their own <style> tags even if the they reference the sam

I was referencing $( "selector" ).css({ ... }) specifically. .live works for events. I suppose you could add an event to modify the style of each element as it was added... But then that really feeds back into the previous point which is th

You can use whatever license you want (MIT, BSD, etc.) This is geared towards applications that wouldn't work without JS anyway. But you could always degrade gracefully by providing some default css in a <noscript> tag.

That's false. If you're doing it "right" then it will produce the same functional output for all of the possible execution paths. That doesn't make it deterministic.

Rude, but whatever... you might be right. Regardless, a future version of any single platform could include changes to the scheduler and/or dispatcher.
