I'd love to see this someday, as an Emacs user. One of my biggest frustrations with Emacs is how it can simply just hang while waiting for anything IO bound (like a response from LSP). It mostly only happens when opening a new file, wh

It's never that simple unfortunately. There's people who fry the slices multiple times (first in medium heat then high), people who bake the potatoes before frying... I've tried every method and it never comes out how I want

I never claimed to know. My point is that Web APIs aren't the answer, like the person I replied to said.

The web has existed for at least 22 years and we still leave such implementation of "standardised" web APIs entirely to the vendor's discretion. I wouldn't call that converging towards consistency or stable.

This is an interesting anecdote, which I can relate in a tangential way. I'm a huge fan of MMOs, and part of that fun is grinding for more wealth. Some of the games I played over the years at some point became infested with Real Money

It works just fine on Linux. 2 years ago I wrote an application in .NET Core using Emacs on Linux and the whole process was seamless. I assume it's even better now, since it's been so long.

The stories surrounding Dan Schneider are mostly just rumors and allegations from children / parents of children who auditioned for his shows, so there's nothing definitive to be said. However, something that's very clear to

I think there are great discussions to be had on the subject of listening to people's experiences without necessarily ignoring factual evidence that contradicts it. My problem is specifically with that person writing two paragraphs of

I personally use dd for such cases as well, but I don't mind downloading a "giant electron application which bundles Chrome and Xbox joystick divers" (I just downloaded Etcher and it takes 40MB on my machine) if that's w

Do you have any tips on how to find such companies? I've always wanted to work on developer tooling but only ever found one company willing to invest in that.

It's interesting to read comments like this because this sentiment has literally always existed. When I used Reddit in 2014 people used to say the exact same thing, yet nothing ever changed from my perspective. It was always bad.

That makes a lot of sense. I have Portuguese heritage and plan on acquiring citizenship in the future. It's nice to get some insight on the culture over there. Thank you.

I've interviewed for companies that presented this as a choice. You could either do a take home assignment followed by a discussion of your solution or a "standard" technical interview.

As a Navi 10 (5700 XT) owner, those problems still exist. It used to be that at least once a week while gaming the driver would crash with some undecipherable error message in dmesg, and because the card had the reset bug the only recourse

This isn't some_one_, it's some_thing_. I share your sentiment when it comes to individuals but extending the same sympathy to a company, especially one the size of Facebook, doesn't make sense imo.

I don't understand how that makes it a replacement. Breaking conventions of REST for one endpoint doesn't necessarily mean you're replacing it, unless you're using REST as a dogma rather than a tool.

How does GraphQL try to replace REST? You can very easily have a graphql endpoint working in a REST API.

You can. There's the concept of query complexity as well that lets you simply reject queries that are too complex and likely to cause trouble.

What is this set of rules exactly? As far as I'm concerned all you have to do is not put newlines between your "return" and whatever is being returned, which is hardly a common thing anyways.
