Your house has 120V AC and your phone needs 5V DC (slightly more if it’s a modern USB C phone). Converting to that voltage requires some electronics. If you’re asking why not just include them in the cable, like laptop chargers —- well you

Whenever I see systems that work so adversarially to my wishes, I stop to wonder why they were built like that. And generally I find the explanation is simple: they are effective on the majority of people. I agree, watching one Mr. Beast vi

I found a lot of things needed time to sink in. I would struggle to wrap my head around the exam content and stress myself out. Then the class would finish and I wouldn’t see the content for another semester, where I’d either be helping ano

The last version that was 100% forward progress for me was Snow Leopard, which was essentially the performance/bug fix revision of Leopard. The Windows 7 from Vista equivalent. Every update since then has felt slow, or introduced bugs.

Seems interesting, but I’m already lost at the first example: lsr; [test m] grep; [f<; [data m] grep] map I’m guessing the lsr is a recursive ls, and presumably map is a HOF (functional) map. I know what grep means. So that means

I, similarly, had a high school chemistry teacher who allowed me to experiment with recipes from the book. Before we touched any chemicals, we would go through the reaction on paper and calculate what would happen (eg ΔH) for education and

Very clever name. Read it out loud if it’s not immediately obvious.

> I use odd words. I wish […] the iPhone would just let me use my odd words You’re describing the exact behaviour of the iPhone keyboard. Give it a try. I have all sorts of weird words that it has learned after I intervene a few times.

This is partially true. If you misspell a word, it will auto correct. If you press backspace, the autocorrected word will still be there, but you can also tap to choose what you actually typed or a different suggestion. And if you backspace

This seems fine to me. She was paid hourly, which is nonexempt work. If your boss found out you were getting someone to stamp your timesheet several hours before you actually came into work every day, that would be considered theft as well.

I don’t think this is the right take. I don’t think it’s the wrong take. It’s just taking all the “takes” and throwing them at the wall to see what sticks. Yes, climate change is a reality. And yes, areas that were once cold will now be war
