That doesn’t actually work and gives you a false sense of reproducibility and stability. Sure your top level dependencies might not change without explicit changes to package.json but every time you run npm install without a lock file all t

This is an insane approach on all platforms and it's depressing that Flutter is gaining mind share. Throwing away the whole platform and rendering everything from scratch with OpenGL/Vulkan etc is just flabbergasting. Having worke

Yeah that was my conclusion too. I don't think I have any cases where the need to perform the dot product between multuple paris of vectors arise however, at least not anywhere in the hot loop where it would help. Raytracers tend to us

This post is really topical for me. I spent hours yesterday trying to write explicit SIMD code[0] for my the vector dot product in my raytracer and all I managed to do was slow the code down about 20-30%. The code generated by Rust from the

To be clear that's not what I am arguing here, I agree that package registries should, ideally, be owned and supported by the community. However NPM already had fairly significnat VC investment and as such any transition to a community

That's a path but NPM already being a company with signficant VC investment would a transition to such a model workout with the existing stakeholders? Also NPM is quite a bit bigger than both the Ruby and Python library spaces.

It depends on what the alternative is. When NPM starts running out of money to run the service what would happen? More VC, but only to a point and the firms would be increasingly be influencing NPM to make money by any means(probably not go

This seems like a good outcome overall. NPM being such an important pillar in the software supply chain while having an unviable business model and largely being funded by VC money was never a good position to be in. There are problems with

I think you are a bit unfair towards the end of this and the focus on developers is misguided. I agree that the cross platform hype is a bad trend that sacrifices user experience for developer experience however one needs to look at the inc

I really don't agree with most of this post but I do find the function builder[0] feature that was introduced to support SwiftUI fairly overkill. I don't fully understand why they didn't use a lighter abstraction based on arr

I’d be concerned that you have a bit of a disaster waiting to happen with not native devs. My experience is that a fully JS team needs the support of some devs who know native for RN to work well. Ideally you need devs with native and JS&#x

I looked for the transpiled source, but I couldn't find it. I suspect it's not particularly idomatic Rust since it has to maintain all details of the C code however I think it's a very promising project anyway. The fact that

Nothing is completely secure, if you find a WASM escape you can trigger from JS within Ducktape it wouldn't be secure for example. But yes, outside of escapes like that, it should be safe to run arbitrary JS via this mechanism.
