It's not slow by any stretch of the word compared to the rest of the web. A clean reload transfers only 300kb of data that uncompresses to 670kb. Of that 223kb(570kb uncompressed) are fonts which are heavily cached and change rarely if

It certainly doesn't help that the NPM's and Yarn's lockfiles are hard to read. Compared them to Gemfile.lock which bundler generates. NPM's package-lock.json https://github.com/search?q=filename%3Apackag

Evan is the author or Vue.js which they also seem to have borrowed code from. A lot of the core code seems to be React Native with `s/RCT/Hippy/g` applied.

I opened a random file(HippyBridge.h[0]) and it looks very similar to React Native's RCTBridge.h[1] which leads me to believe Hippy is either a fork of React Native or heavily "inspired" by it. A lot of the comments and symbo

No they dont't usually collect the data and forward it to third parties. With most stuff like this apps will embed a binary SDK which is initialized when the app starts. Because the SDK runs in the app's process it has all the sam

Yup I do this too and I agree with your observations, about one third of my home network's DNS request are rejected with nearly no impact on my internet browsing. I've also observed the same thing when browsing the web with uBlock

My university(Gothenburg University) did this for the CS course. Haskell does a very good job at levelling the playing field since it was new even to those who had prior programming experience. As I recall about 40 people out of 70 did drop

I'm very much in the cross platform is a bad idea camp. It's fine for sharing business logic and other non-UI code, but having tried several cross platform UI kits I've never found it to work well. Cross platform UI always en

React Native, Flutter, and Electron have a lot of problems in between them. They are fairly good cross platform solutions, whether cross platform UI is actually a good idea is much more dubious, I lean towards no it's not. I'm mor

That’s super interesting. I really like Rust, definitely my favourite language recently. I’ve been thinking a lot about the pattern you are using with Rust for the shared layer. Have you got an engineering blog or something with more detail

Just a small note that I would highgly recommend ripgrep[0] over standard grep. It's another modern tool that has been created by leveraging Rust and it's from BurntSushi[1] who is excellent. 0: https://github.com/
