The problem for Microsoft is that they continue to serve two masters: consumer users and corporate users. Corporate IT shops, especially within certain industries, can be exceptionally wary of anything that moves data outside their walls. C

I'd like to offer a slightly different perspective on this. As someone who is a hybrid hacker/biologist, I welcome something like TermKit. I have invested a good chunk of time learning unix commands and the shell because lots of scientific

While it may be true that Google isn't trying to lock developers in like MS has tried to do, that needs to be considered with respect to their business model. MS and Google are both huge software companies, but that's about the end of the s

I had hoped that the all digital display one would be less dorky looking. As it is, I can't help but think that it looks like a modernized Radio Shack calculator watch. Digital watches always seem to suffer from poor aesthetics.

I don't think that's true at all. The original post was a cogent, if brief, explanation that about currency and the challenges for bitcoin. The last quote is most certainly meant to be sarcastic. He most certainly is trying to tweak people

It all comes down to what kind of software you intend to make (and frankly, who you intend to make it for). If you want to write a 3D video game, Python and Ruby aren't exactly your best bet for example. Likewise, if you're inside some comp

We basically need a developer who can own QA, but we expect this person would also have opportunities to do from scratch development on some of our projects too. It's a hybrid role that requires just the right person, which is why we are re

The thing that irks me about this sort of presentation is that it presumes the government is entitled to money that is currently in the hands of private citizens. The reality of taxes is that the government decides how much money to confisc

I know of one that will be a major pain: the Apani VPN client. It's the only way to VPN into a Nortel VPN from OS X and has never been ported to Intel. It is the only reason I had to put Rosetta on Snow Leopard. I get the feeling it will li

Just to add to that, coming to a full-blown TCP/IP connection from dialup was mind-altering. When I was a young teenager, I started using BBSes in the early 1990's. With those, there was not really a notion of doing several things at once.

Except that it's not just reflexes. Watson has to compute the answer before the humans. That's no small task. This video is a great technical explanation of how it works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3G2H3DZ8rNc&feature=youtu...

This is great news. It mystifies me that Apple has such a beautiful UI, but Terminal.app doesn't support 256 colors. It makes vim on a remote machine look like garbage and is inexcusable. I'm anxious to try this out.
