I agree that large-scale machine learning is a bigger risk, but there are people who personally creep around in others' personal data.[1] Also, it doesn't need to be just a few people looking at your private data. One early wors

I'm still baffled why anyone would put those voice-activated devices in their houses. Smartphones are bad enough, and I'm hoping to get rid of mine soon.

Safari is the worst by default. I don't have any Apple devices, but when I look at screenshots of Safari's URLs, they are not full URLs. Also, it looks like you can't show the full URLs on iPads or iPhones. (You can on Firefo

It looks like there is an 8 second delay in the style element with the attribute `amp-boilerplate` that makes AMP pages extremely slow when 3rd party JavaScript is blocked (as it should be by default).

Are you loading that in a browser? My browser reports 12 requests and 1.06 seconds for your first link, but it doesn't render anything for about 8 seconds. Clarification: block the JS files from loading from the CDN, like it's don

I wish people would stop linking to AMP pages. They take about 8 seconds to load on non-mobile browsers with JS turned off.

> If you misconfigure the mail will be retried for about 4 days That's a good point that I didn't think of. Maybe I'll tinker with it when I have a little free time. I would also like to learn how to use Mutt.

That sounds great. I don't think I would have the extra time required to learn how to do it though. Also, if I lose emails during the learning process, it could be a disaster.

It's a good idea, but I don't think that it will stop being influenced by ads. Human behavior is contagious, and advertisers know that. That's why actors in commercials pretend to be just another person like the viewer while

Do you run your own mail server? I'm not opposed to the idea of trying it, but it seems like it would require a lot of work, and the potential for losing critical emails would be higher. It definitely sounds fun though.

That looks like fun, but also like it requires running your own mail server. :) I use Thunderbird filters to sort incoming emails, but it's still out of control. In 1995 there wasn't this kind of email overload.

I don't think that mailing lists work well any more. I've tried to subscribe to some, but they get buried in my inbox, and I'm so tired of emails by the time I get to the list messages that I usually just highlight them all a

I think that most ads aren't leading people who desire a product to that product -- they are creating desire for products that people don't really need. Most of the ads I see at the moment are on YouTube/Gmail and they are fo

Saving 10% on a keyboard on a very rare occasion isn't worth the dangers of advertising (privacy, malware, brainwashing).

I'm never thinking about buying anything that I see in an ad. I don't own much more in life other than some books, my computers, and a few clothes. I prefer to take my own initiative on what I buy, and the less I buy, the better.

All calendar calculation is done with techniques and/or memorization. All pi memorization is done with mnemonic techniques. I've been in that scene for 7+ years and have never seen a credible exception.
