For comments, if it does not contribute to the discussion at all, it should (probably) be downvoted.

Interestingly, the same bank rolled out a new website last year, with no notification of it being updated to the customers. Just found myself staring at an unknown site one day.

> It means the channel owner can't just accept the free viewing model exclusively. I pray that I'm either misunderstanding you, or you are misunderstanding Youtube. Partners must be able to choose whether they want videos to be

I think they are simply trying to force all partners to accept the new terms.

It's great, but very late. I'm unsure about the pricing - $10 is very pricey (I pay ~$20 for internet). I would've /thought/ about it if it was $5, though, to be fair, I'm not a huge Youtube user.

It's about damn time. I hope the pricing will be reasonable, and that it will also remove all those "recommended for you" videos... Though, that sounds very unlikely.

So how do you fix it? I don't really see another way to rank large amounts of stories other than points. Sure, you can try to detect cheating, but you want a minimal amount of false positives, too. Edit: missing word

It doesn't do anything for me, at least.

I do love the comments, but I rarely have anything to add, so I don't really need an account. :)

Definitely. It allows people to discover more videos without creating the annoyance of having to change volume for every video.

Yeah. The main attraction of HN is the links. Comments are usually nice to read, but I rarely have much to add to the discussion.

Good. I absolutely hate videos that are so low volume that I have to turn Youtube up to 100%, and then adjust volume in Windows too, to hear anything. And then imagine finding one of the louder videos next. I've tried to give people ad

I agree. MMOs used to fill this purpose for me, but recently they have been becoming less popular, with games like LoL taking over with rounds lasting <1 hour, after which you never see the players again.

eSports. There was a large CS:GO/LoL/SC2 tournament last weekend, where CS:GO gathered over 1 million concurrent viewers during finals (last tournament had 460K!). While LoL has been a big player for a while, and probably continue

Finland too. Might be US-only?

If they have computers, or if you can get them ones, Minecraft is a good idea. Highly moddable, in multiple languages, huge communities and Redstone! Plus, it's fun.

Why?! According to Wikipedia[1] there's been a transitional period since 2012 (for data transfer). I can not see any downsides to banning roaming charges (within EU). [1]: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Unio

What other, user-friendly payment providers are there for MEGA to use? Edit: Ask HN: Paypal alternatives for vendors outside the US? https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9123336

I mean the (re-)encoding, not the resolution.

Patreon-style payments are what I meant by donations, but I guess people just won't trust Google enough for that.
82.
by Joona 12y ago
Why does Youtube not have pay-to-watch channels, or just the ability to "donate" to channels? This is a huge deal on Twitch (channels have thousands of paying "subscribers").
83.
by Joona 12y ago
Definitely. They try to compress the videos as much as they can, load comments only if you scroll down etc.
84.
by Joona 12y ago
And the video quality is (still) terrible, or possibly even getting worse.

by Joona 12y ago
There's this: https://www.youtube.com/feed/subscriptions Which displays the videos the channels your subscribe to have uploaded (newest first).

I got motion sickness from Rift DK2. The low resolution was the most noticeable thing, so I think it's a combination of things. Plus, some people get motion sickness, some don't.

Do you direct users there for troubleshooting etc?

by Joona 12y ago
Do you have a forum for the users? The amount of help your users can provide to each other is massive.

I actually thought about making an app like this. Glad someone made it! Any plans to include small file transfers (like photos)?

Touhou is amazing. I don't really care for the games, but the community around it is huge and creative. ZUN's music is great, but the community also creates their own versions, in so many different genres.
