A few weeks ago they were investigating symptoms similar to HAPE - High Altitude Pulmonary Edima. Basically, you get blood clots and those go into the heart to the lungs and block the blood vessels (killing parts of the lungs) and presumabl

I usually prolong it for travel, but I've always had offers by 60 days in. Anecdote.

Yeah, I just can't do it without it being fun and having a goal / purpose. Ie, I'm training for this trip or this whatever.

Opposite. I got lonely, so I went to Houston to visit family. I typically eat super healthy, exercise daily and do strenuous 16+ hour outdoors adventures on weekend days. Now, I just eat a lot, drink beer and watch TV. I lost all my fun out

I usually set aggressive dates to keep myself accountable. If it's loose, I'll over-engineer or pick up a side project doing something else. Management doesn't really set dates for us right now.

If the economy recovers from the Coronavirus before everyone goes back to work -- did we really need everyone?

It's supposed to look like HAPE -- blood clots are actually coming in and blocking blood vessels in the lungs.

A vaccine seems weirdly plausible. We had a discussion on sending everyone under 30 to a giant Coachella for a month. I'd be so down.

Was he referring to '10 years to enact things to prevent X'. Because we've passed a few thresholds that we probably can't take back at this point. Exponential growth on a long timescale is something people are bad at.

This reminds me of how we model things, but there are also variables that change before they actually happen.

I'm an introvert, but my hobbies are outdoor sports that require other people and sometimes enclosed spaces. I was dying! I had to go home and move in with family so I could speak to someone more than once every two weeks.

I've always felt that this is a misconception. My friends did a ton of drugs, had parties and participated in hobbies, especially in college. Now they're all Engineers, PhDs, Doctor's and Entrepreneurs. They just happened to

You just suggested that a lot of ivy-league schools are second tier. I'm not sure you're very representative of the vast majority of people. In Texas, there's stuff like Stanford and Cornell, which is ivy league -- 1-2 kids m

A lot of people who care about credentials seem to have done undergrad in a state school, then moved on to graduate school in ivy leagues. That describes maybe half of my coworkers.

I've had a hard time as well, but I think the reason is different. Software work feels very similar to the games I enjoy and I do that 6-10 hours a day. Games effectively trained me to be able to understand and build complex systems, w
