Child porn is pretty messed up, but also one of those scary things because it's so easy to move data into any computer without consent. Then it's an easy claim to make against anyone whether or not it's true.

Reminds me of the scientist who drank bacteria to prove that it caused stomache ulsers (and was treatable). Too bad it's just not that easily testable. Unfortunately, we are still within measurement error and it's possible that te

My university wouldn't try inverse classrooms (or record classes at all) because they have to be subtitled for the deaf (which costs money). However, deaf students don't have a similar requirement in normal classrooms. It's f

As another poster said, it's open source and written for fellow hackers, so language is a feature. Imagine if emacs was written purely in C++.

They don't have to beat Google. They just have to sell movies to gamers, which is far easier. By the way, gamers are often pirates too. Giving them a platform and price point would go a long way.

As a consumer, I trust valve more than Google to make decisions that are better for me. They could be doing a lot more to squeeze money out of me, but they won't do that. My stuff feels safe on steam even if it's under DRM. I norm

We are mostly programmers, so it makes sense. Most of us are happy to listen to people more knowledge than us though.

You should try making listening to music an activity. It's good for code, but you don't notice a lot of the detail; it's a different experience.

I thought it was for purchasing the movies and still thought "meh, overpriced". If it's just renting for 48 hours, that's even worse.

This is going to sound really dumb, but it's how culture works so bear with me. I'm nonreligious, I don't care to discuss it or think about religion as a part of my life, but it's okay if others want to be religious them

I consider it part of implementing a cultural status quo (recycling is good) as opposed to being overly useful. Plastic bags are really in-your-face pollution.

From this title; maybe hacker news needs a twitter? Also: You can't use average page weight when you are just looking at the top ten. That downturn could represent a single website; all others could be increasing in size.

Making it not scalable is the point. It places a monetary restriction so that they have to pick and choose what devices they think are worth hacking and which ones are not. This is the balance between citizen's rights and government po
