It is! Still it’s part of Eastern Europe, by some definitions. See the Wikipedia page for Eastern Europe. All in all it’s a useless moniker these days for most purposes.

Ok so meat controls are bad in Romania. Romania is in Eastern Europe, but so are Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic. I would have no qualms at all eating rare meat in either of those countries. I just think stereotyping “Eastern Europe”

My dishwasher (EU) has three temperatures to choose from: 50, 65 and 75 degrees Celsius. I’m reasonably sure the top two are sufficient to cook fish. Those are the water temperatures. I have no idea if it circulates hot air in the drying cy

I don’t think this is true at all. I’ve been to dozens of countries all over the world and in each one you will find dirty kitchens as well as clean ones. You should visit Eastern Europe some time. It’s not just a stereotype.

There are reasons why this type of game is heavily regulated in parts of the world, and even and illegal to operate in some countries. It's just such a deeply problematic business model IMO. I don't know if the state of California

Just curious, not judging: was your leaving Zynga related to the ethics of the situation?

Maybe for YouTube, but for consuming long-form content like movies, there’s something to be said for sitting down and watching purposefully with a more immersive experience.

Presumably, any undiscovered fraud against the company is more expensive to shareholders than the discovered fraud.

Exactly — the auditor is appointed to represent the interests of the shareholders, not the executives. At least, that’s the way it is supposed to work.

Interesting, but how does your experience relate to the linked story? Is EY somehow related to Accenture? Are Accenture also doing auditing?

No, it’s the absence of a control because there is no control group. You can’t study whether it’s a religiously affiliated behavior unless you have a non-religious fasting control group. It’s called a confounding variable.

The claim of the gp is this study could “remove the influence of religion-inspired forgiving behavior.” In order to isolate religious belief, they would need to include a control group of judges who fasted for a month but without any religi

How would it? They are all practicing muslims. How could you correct for a trait that is present in every one of the study participants?

I love this quote. > You could argue that modern AI, for example, Riffusion, can do a better job. The counterargument is - if you enjoy what you are doing, it's better not to care if someone does it better but with less pleasure.

I think this would still work in a cinema. I don’t know what could constitute “enemy propaganda” though.

Sharing those too widely is hugely counterproductive though. It will engage people who have no business with it. It’s what Yammer does to an organization — introduces all the disadvantages of Twitter with few of the benefits.

The title makes a lot of sense because of the meme “10x engineer”. That is also wrong - being 10x more productive is also something you do, not something you are — but I see the point in following that template.

Not sure refilling works with HP’s DRM-equipped cartridges. I think they will refuse to print once their counter shows 0, no matter if there’s ink inside.

I’m pretty sure off-brand ink would not have worked at all. That’s the whole purpose of the DRM — HP cannot tolerate that someone buys non-original cartridges, or refills them.

I'm sure the poster meant it was their first time riding a bakfiets, not that they never rode a bike before. The length of the bakfiets makes it a bit of a challenge.
