I'm using it to save taxes, because I'm not sure what are the alternatives. You're comment makes me feel I should be less ignorant: any good online reading to suggest?

I don't know mercurial, and I agree about the limitation you mention for stashing the index. That said if I need to do a refactoring or something else while I have an unclean tree, I stash before doing it, then commit it, and then un

So to take an example, signed integer arithmetic can't overflow (or it is UB), would you like a compiler that flag for every single arithmetic operation on int when it can't prove it won't overflow? So we couldn't compil

I was addressing the part of your comment that mentioned "a job without protection (minimum wage, sick pay, health insurance, unemployment insurance/benefits, cover for accidents) shouldn't exist".

I'm super happy to read that you plan on improving search! I really like Sentry, the UI is pretty good, but still a bit counter-intuitive or limited in some way. For example when looking at an issue, I click on a release in the "l

Shadertoy is one of the main source of benchmark for a GPU compiler: the iOS (LLVM based) shader compiler is heavily optimized toward these.

You haven't defined what you mean by "single occurrence"? To me being low one month, or during a two months project can be a single occurrence, but that wouldn't lead to a "bad perf review" (at least not in my

I think you missed the essence of my comment which was "there is no stack ranking and being evaluated as underperforming is then not a result of stack ranking". I'm not sure what you mean by `occasional underperformance`? I&#

There is no stack ranking involved (as far as I know, at least in SW). That's why when an engineer is evaluated as under-performing this is really about their own (manager-perceived) performance vs the expectation, and there is no ques

Apple released an implementation of Swift on Linux since the first day they open-sourced it. IBM is behind it with their web framework, and some people are porting it to windows as well.

Testing in sqlite is great! That still isn't a reason to write unreadable code though. It may just be a "Linux Torvald" kind of approach: if you can't read the code as is we don't want you in the community.

The non-trivial part is that most optimization are contextual and not "one function at a time". Re-optimizing only a single function may not even be possible/useful with things like partial inlining/outlining, etc.
