It impacts only the bitcode and not the final binary AFAIK. The issue is with debug-info not being stripped out completely as expected. It comes from a change from LLVM upstream that was made (in 3.9) to keep source locations for providing

Hard to say. I'm pretty sure you can create any piece of IR (almost), and Optimize/CodeGen. We're open to add new APIs when someone needs one that is missing. We only break the C API when there is really no choice. For exampl

It is supposed to be "mostly" API/ABI stable at the C API level. The C++ API is always (and has always been) completely unstable. One way to address it is to have your own wrapper around LLVM that provide the feature you need

You have to understand that one of LLVM goal is to provide a full toolchain, through reusable library components. So we're seeking to provide our own solution for this, and we're actually providing this feature as a library for a

Sorry, I was wrong to characterize the atom being a core part of the MachO object format while it is only a core part of how ld64 works. The compiler is following some convention though that ld64 takes advantages of. Other than ld64 source

If you are familiar with object file formats in general, you may know that this is exactly how MachO works: it is based on atoms. If you want to map ELF to the atom model, you need somehow to build with -ffunction-section so that the compil

Actually no: `lld` is not a single linker, there has been a split between Elf/COFF folks and the MachO ones. The page you're linking is about the MachO project which is not very actively developed.
