I'd be nice if you could just _hide_ apps not in the group, not kill them... But I guess that would mean they still show up in command-tab. It sounds like you're forcefully killing processes - can you at least kill them more gracefully? Bas

I'm not a woman, and I agree. It just opens the door for lame, offensive jokes and doesn't have anything to do with the project. There probably was no negative intent, but it should be renamed.

I flagged this post. The article is not written by anyone with a background in the topic, and is a blatant spam for a to-do list app. There's nothing wrong with promoting one's projects here, but I'd rather see it done honestly, not snuck i

True. Any word from the up voters on why they enjoyed this particular article? Or did the votes come mostly because people like The New Yorker, and were expecting it to be good?

I'm with you. I enjoy a well written long and meandering article, but this one was just a dud. The story just wasn't that interesting. I kept expecting it to pick up right until the very end; then I just felt disappointed.

I don't see how you could theoretically index this in a way that supports the bloom filter query. Indexes rely on data being ordered, and b-tree (similar to binary tree) lookups. A where clause that's like "where col & val = col" can ne

In my experience, it stops making a difference once you have to carry a 20 lb kryptonite chain to lock it. I just spent all that money on a light bike, and now it's 20 pounds heavier. I hate bike thieves. Just had my bike stolen last week i

I'm philosophically opposed to the phrase "calories in, calories out". True, we can't violate thermodynamics. However, the real important thing is calories absorbed, and how those calories affect metabolism, calories out. Not as poetic, bu

I think the question is _why_ is it important to be semantically correct, not do positioning in the html, and to separate areas of concern. Note - I agree with you, I'm just clarifying the question. I think the answer is really only two thi

When data is tabular, tables make sense. I think there's been a lot of brainwashing that tables are evil; really, it's just that tables aren't ideal for layout. If you've got a page with tabular data, use the table tag! It's semantically va

Boy I was half asleep when I wrote that comment, all I was saying was that since github lets you reference previous versions of files by crafting the URL properly to include a tag/branch/hash, it should be possible to link to previous versi

While the attitude is a little entitled, there may still be a valid point for other users as well. Couldn't se properly crafted URLs on the homepage solve this problem? Like /tags/2.0/documentation/index.html [1]. And run it right off of bo

(For those who don't know there was a standoff between the bootstrap guys and the maker of a popular js minifier tool [Douglas Crockford I think?] over the pragmatism of ending lines in js with semicolons. Bootstrap claims that semi-colons

This sounds similar in practice (not implementation) to AeroFS [1] which is a peer to peer syncing service. Just make one of your peers something cloud-based and reliable. Very interesting space! [1] https://www.aerofs.com/
