Jitsi is a very good solution. Probably the best open source video conferencing solution out there. A good example of it's use in EU is it's integration in online meeting platform for Latvian Parliament. It was quickly implemented

We tried it with AFP as well, did not help, after some time those time machine backups got corrupted. We suspected that maybe AFP writes failed because computers were disconnected from network before buffer was written to the server. But th

I did use time machine on external USB HDD and after some time it got corrupted. Happened multiple times over the years. Then I tried Time Machine using AFP and SMB on remote NAS. Those also got corrupted multiple times. The lesson I learne

If you still want to use the algorithms but keep the data private (self hosted and open source), I can suggest Librephotos. It has face detection, object detection, place markers, etc. It is not perfect but from what I have seen, it's

~10 years ago I made about 10k Twitter accounts just for fun. I never used them. They still exist, no one deleted them. A while ago I lost the script and password for them. Back then you could bypass captchas and other checks by changing To

If you are on Linux and using fancy gaming mouse, there is a chance you can configure it with the open source libratbag (console app) or Piper (GUI app). It won't make any network requests. :)

Wire messaging app does this nicely, allowing to set the default time per conversation and showing a small non-distracting timer icon (progress bar) next to a message.

This looks nice. I have previously used Traccar GPS tracking system. Will definitely give this a try at some point. Currently I am using gammu-smsd with a simple forwarding script (through Pushover) to deliver messages for my 2nd number. Fo

The great open source community around Mozilla helps a lot. When I did not see my own language in the list a year ago, and I had no clue how to get it there, I reached out to my university contacts that I know used to translate Firefox year

I appreciate what Valve is doing and I will vote with my money. I don't see myself as a "handheld gamer" but I am making a reservation today just to be able to play with that device a bit.

My guess is that Valve will keep their own mirrors and update from upstream only once their relevant packages will be tested for compatibility. I have been using Archlinux for more than 10 years and from time to time some major upgrades can

Interesting that Firefox by default did not render the fizzbuzz demo correctly by default. I had to click the canvas icon next to address bar and allow the canvas usage. And it did not show a prompt either. It just looked broken by default.

I really enjoy Wordpress for writing freely. Ever since Docker-compose, automatic updates and Gutenberg editor became available, I haven’t even needed to look at alternatives.

I used it 10 years ago and initially locks were a slight problem. Not sure if this has been solved somehow in sqlite itself. I solved the problem by handling all the DB operations in a separate thread that handled write and read queues. It

Yeah, that sounds a bit slow. I suggest checking if faspath and fasttrack is working. I remember that when I had hAP AC using firewall rules inside lan, it also did not go much faster. Good indication was CPU usage. If it used 100% CPU at ~

I wonder what is reasonable WiFi throughput for you? With my 5 year old Mikrotik hAP AC I am able to get up to 500 Mbit/s on lan. And my old phone now shows 250 Mbit/s on speedtest.net both directions. How much more are we talking
