That is partially true. The absurd remunerations of SV engineers factor in the cost of living, for sure, but generally people can consolidate a decent amount of capital in a few years if they have a good position. Even if you have to spend

To be fair, aside from perhaps very specific domains (e.g. finance) or corporations, the pay probably looks dismal if you compare it to SV levels. Making six figures is certainly something hard to reach. Ditto on the immigrants thing though

Same. I heavily block google scripts and hate reCAPTCHA with a passion, but hCaptcha really takes the cake for the most painful captcha experience.

And what do you expect them to do with their piss? Drink it? How jaded to human suffering must one be to report something as minor as this to a company known for having awful labor practices…

Can we now talk about docker hub requiring write access to your repositories as well? This is an awful situation and tons of projects on github have given up on this front and just allowed full access to their repo

It has been discussed to death on HN, what are you talking about? Now for some notes on your comment: - Gitlab has switched the name of the master branch too - The point is not that it is harmful or bad to do so, and anyone actually crusadi

I am not disparaging the value of connections (although I may add that focusing on FAANG and enormous tech corps is quite US-centric or even SV-centric, and generally the odds to have a connection in smaller-sized companies are quite low).

To remove it, you have to be aware that it exists first, which is certainly not the case of a large majority of tech-savy people who do not necessarily read all the news regarding their system. I certainly wouldn’t expect my distro to silen

That explains the unfortunate fact that the raspberry pi foundation silently added a Microsoft repository to their main OS silently a while ago. It makes sense for the educational target of the desktop version, but it would have been nice t

Are there actual developers who care about LinkedIn presence out there? It makes sense to have an account there, to appease HR people, but are there technical people who make use of this to create real connections? Or even display existing

I like the Fiio BTA10, which is a bluetooth (aptX-compatible) add-on for Audio-Technica MSR7 & M50X (two different versions of the add-on). Battery life is not great (a few hours), but it is a small addon which fits nicely into the head

I am not holding my breath either, and as I said, there are plenty of protocol optimizations which have been made to fit into that terrible state of things. To the point that Conversations, my Android XMPP client, uses less battery than Sig

Without the optimizations added since 2016, it is not a great protocol for mobile devices, but only because mobile devices are stupid and equate a background TCP connection with something bad and battery-heavy. That means they make it much
