Again, you're after something totally other. Why should I waste my time trying to demonstrate something that has nothing to do with my original aim?

> Also, your counterexample uses different CSS for the "in order" and "out of order" proofs-of-concept, which defeats the purpose - the point is that the CSS needs to stay exactly the same with the presentation not changing upon changes

> nobody makes the argument that it's impossible to do a markup-order-independent, three-column layout in CSS The first post I quoted did exactly that. The OP argued that if you changed the order of a 3-column layout, it 'destroys' the

It's "she", if you don't mind; and nobody asked for a fluid layout. You're trying to point out flaws in an example designed to prove a totally different point.

Don't worry, you're not the only one that made that assumption. Apparently only men should be allowed near code ;)

Hence why this was not intended to be a justification of CSS, just a disagreement with one specific point. I'll let the likes of Eric Meyer etc defend the rest of it. I'm sure they know more about it than I do anyway.

Because I've seen too many people shot down in flames for not quoting titles as-is, and I'm not feeling that brave today. Incidentally, the edit link has timed out now.

You're right, I misread Joel's quote & I'm grateful he took the time to clarify. This doesn't make it any less possible. For example: http://www.jemjabella.co.uk/junk/rearrange/abs-columns-in-or... http://www.jemjabella.co.uk/junk/re

Given that the point of the entry is to show off the position independent examples rather than insult any one individual's abilities, something like "Order-Independent CSS Layout Examples" would probably be more appropriate. I assume I coul

The original example in the original post complained about not being able to swap the center and side columns, I didn't feel that the header was relevant. However, I could create additional examples if necessary. Ref: real world - agree tot

The articles I'm disagreeing with state that it's not possible, neither restrict that statement as purely an IE6 problem. The demonstration is to prove that it is possible, which it clearly is. I could tweak the positioning of the columns b

Design and coding are two totally separate arenas. I am useless at design. Nonetheless, I'll bear your criticism in mind. (Although you can resize the text yourself, it's %-driven.)

I'm working on an unfamiliar system, with unfamiliar tools, and doing several things at once - all whilst dribbling snot over my keyboard - but I'll be sure to narrow it down to 10 mins next time. :)

I apologise in advance. On reflection, the title sounds much more offensive than was intended. The point of the entry still stands, however.

And Lisp, Arc, Python, C++, C, ASP.Net Lua, etc... they don't require skill and expertise? Is that because they weren't created well?

That's the fault of IE6 and 7 though, NOT CSS. Blaming CSS for the inadequacies of MS browsers is flawed logic.

phpbb2 and phpbb3 are worlds apart. A forum I 'run' for a client used to get up to 200 spam users a DAY with phpbb2, but since upgrading to phpbb3, it's not had a single one.

The company I work for designed and built a new e-commerce site for one of our clients in the first quarter of last year. Although it's been a huge success, there are still customers of theirs who will ONLY place orders via the telephone.
