I still use my first gen SE and have had the battery replaced once.

It will still be nondeterministic in this context. Prompts like “Can you do X?” and “Please do X” might result in very different outcomes, even when it’s “technically deterministic”. For the human operating with natural language it’s nondet

I hate these kind of “saves power” things in windows settings. The OS itself pings home so often, sends network request for everything you do, shows ads on the login screen, makes screenshots (for Recall), Edge sends contents from web forms

I didn’t notice they were lacking. Are animations really asked for by users?

Oof that is bad. > How is it not top 1 priority to fix it? Maybe because it is very rare? I have been using thunderbird for 10 years now on various OSes and never had issues.

A big difference is bit depth. BMP normally is 8bits per pixel per channel (colour). RAW is often more bits (say 10 or 12 or even more). This means you can adjust lighting without introducing banding and so on.

I used RawTherapee a ton, but changed to Lightroom because the denoising is so much better. (I’m sure a more expensive camera would also help here, but I have what I have.) Now that I’m used to Lightroom it will be hard to switch back.

But why would d be much greater. The problem asks to minimise d, and so it cannot be greater than the smallest |x-y|^2.

Well these new results (denser packings than before) are regular lattices which might suggest that the optimal packing could be a lattice. (Until the record is broken again by a irregular packing ;-)

I still have my iPhone with home button. That’s also a solution ;-)

If I have to traverse a tree, then recursion is more natural to me. With a loop you’ll have to manually use a stack (it’s fine, but more error prone). For lists, I rarely write loops or recursion. It’s mostly folds and maps.

You should read one paragraph further. They did use c2rust but found it really bad and threw that out of the window. Then did it manually. So in the end it is not c2rust .

Isn’t it the case that for a given functor (on Set) there can only be at most one Monad structure?

I only had these problems in the first year (2015-2016). But they fixed it back then and never had problems after.

Yes of course. Without it you simply have no support for touch and stylus. It’s a great effort, but unfortunately not there yet (for SP4)

I tried installing Ubuntu on my surface pro 4. But the support for touch and stylus is bad. Also it didn’t properly shut down and emptied the battery that way. It’s still a great device, it just sucks I’m stuck with windows (10).

I tried it many months ago and it was garbage. But this was trying smtlib directly. Maybe via the python bindings it works better?

When they started, the plan was mostly to have fun and see how far you can get when creating an OS from scratch. So picking a language in which they are experienced makes sense in that context.

As a society we need to help parents to achieve that. It’s not helpful to just blame parents.

I’m not convinced that solution is much better. It can be improved to x/2 + y/2 (which still gives the wrong answer if both inputs are odd).

Of course many things can be faster than C, because C is very far from modern hardware. If you compile with optimisation flags, the generated machine code looks nothing like what you programmed in C.

You can say the same about creating images, writing text and coding. Yet here we are with all kinds of AI tools to exactly that…
