A big difference is that it must include the thing the functions act upon (self). In functional programming you often leave that out. In FP you can also refactor little pieces of the chain into its own separate name (eg: smallest = sort >

That’s a reason I moved away from Notion. The startup is so terribly slow (perhaps because it’s updating too often?).

Quite useless?! I still use my iPhone SE (1 gen) from 8 years ago. It’s working perfectly fine for my daily business. Sure, some newer apps I cannot install, but so far I’m not missing anything important. Banking apps work, navigations work

It is an issue if a mathematician has to apply for grants. Often they are in the same competition as physicists, for instance, and then metrics do matter.

Especially on babies, the smoothing or noise reduction is weird. A newborn has a very specific skin with an enormous amount of details/speckles/marks. It’s very hard to capture for some reason. Couldn’t do it with my phone, only w

It would still have a beginning. And it would not be “for free” as the used/seen part of the data structure would remain in memory.

People do things at a personal loss all the time, like giving money to charity or unpaid volunteer work. And yes, keeping people informed is difficult but a crucial effort for a working democracy.

I appreciate your reply, thanks! About the “individual choice”: it indeed is, unless tech companies make bad choices. Like GitHub recently showed a button “what are my PRs?” When pressed it asked copilot to give you the list of PRs (incomp

I do not agree with this perspective. A lot of people care not only about their own quality of life. But also the life of their peers, children and even people they don’t know. Many people make sacrifices to help others and the planet. It’s

There is a third way of making AI cheaper: using it less. We have seen many technologies which have been made so much more efficient (heat pumps, solar panels, etc). Really great achievements. Yet the amount of (fossil) energy we use still

Sure it needs to be reviewed. But the author does more than just reviewing, they help the person submitting the PR to improve their PR. If the other side is an AI, it can save them some time.

This is also a good reminder that you technically don’t need a “server”. If you and your friend want to collaborate, you could in principle pull from their computer (and vice versa), if you have (ssh) access.
