I used audacity 20 years ago and the interface is still the same. That is also worth something.

On the other hand, the language is already 35 years old and people still use it! Many other languages have died in the meantime.

No. These are polynomials (in x).

I think the current situation shows that outsourcing is also expensive. The costs are just different or not always clear up front.

If you don’t like the taste, you shouldn’t drink it, imo. So yes, one enjoys coffee exactly for the flavour.

“Almost everywhere” is a mathematical term and can mean two things (I think): - except finitely many, or - except a set of measure zero.

I find it so annoying that certain apps update every single time I open them. Why can’t they build something more stable?

I just do <website>@<myhost.tld>. It is sometimes confusing by when interacting with customer support ;-)

Surface Pro 4, it is an older model, so it cannot run Win11. Indeed I needed a custom kernel. I’m still quite happy with Win10 though. I’ll have a look at Linux again.

I’ve tried Linux on an older surface pro. It sucks, pen/touch is not reliable, the device wouldn’t shut off properly which drained the battery. But I guess NASA would have the budget to resolve that.

Many compilers do change a recursion into a loop, avoiding the stack altogether!

It doesn’t really. The website thinks I’m on a iPhone 19 pro, although I’m actually on a iPhone SE 1st gen. So it’s off by roughly a decade.

The hash is the same. But a hash set has to use == in case of equal hashes (to avoid collisions).

I used to have a 2011 MBP and a M1 air at the same time. I actually preferred the mechanical trackpad of the MBP. Unfortunately that laptop died.

If you upload to arxiv, there are explicit instructions which tell you what latex commands work and which don’t for the abstract. The authors didn’t read those instructions.

What do you mean by “these days”? To me, it seems like rust is a pretty constant factor on HN for at least two years now.

The deeply nested menu for entering the url, that’s bad, I agree. But why is a scrollbar on the other side better or worse? I have the minimap configured on the left in vs code and use it as scrollbar. It’s quite nice actually.

Or a CC license, because it’s more of an educational resource than code.

Yes it is inefficient. But youtube pays the storage ;-). (There is probably a limit on free accounts, and it is probably not allowed by the TOS.)

The thing is that two English texts on completely different topics will compress better than say and English and Spanish text on exactly the same topic. So compression really only looks at the form/shape of text and not meaning.

Not necessarily. Even the statements may not appear in the final paper. The questions arose during research, and understanding them was needed for the authors to progress, but maybe not needed for the goal in mind.

Isn’t the only difference between pop and imap that pop removes the mail from the server? I only use imap, and all my email is available offline.

Yeah, there are already way more papers being published than we can reasonably read. Collaboration, ok, but we don’t need more writing.

It also says my website is hosted on GitHub pages, although it’s served from a hetzner server. EDIT: on further inspection: I get both a red cross AND a green check mark for hosting. So it’s somehow indicating both GitHub and hetzner. Maybe
