RE: "Make sure your hook is glowingly radioactively good. Don't overbalance. Leave in some jank. Scope down and finish quickly. And avoid tropes. Stand out." For games with a limited run time is it possible to balance this ag

This also happens with some private torrent trackers; the status of having an account means people put more effort into maintaining the place too. Online marketing feels like a field that would _need_ a private place to talk tbh; anything p

I dunno if there were that many successful private forums; locking off access to unregistered users back then was a really good way of ensuring no new users finding the place back then. Very very possible I just wasn't aware of private

The huge number of communities that have elected to move to Discord, an information black hole, seems like a strong counterargument to the generality of this claim.

Slop is an unfair word to use, agreed. I suppose it's possible that they're viewing those factors as being inherent in the original Quake engine rather than something Valve should be credited for and relying on them in their fork

Super tight and responsive movement wouldn't necessarily mean jumping puzzles make sense in a 90s single player FPS. Would also say what a tryhard is attempting on a server playing every day is going to be a fair bit off from the bulk

UKIP/Brexit/Reform as a vehicle to hold large influence over politics from outside Westminster might. I would imagine the party's attitudes on a myriad of things would shift if they were in power though.

The Blairite wing of that party has always been extremely bad with this kind of thing (see Tony Blair's obsession with ID cards over the decades) so it's unsurprising they'd push something like this.

Considering in the UK you can get sim cards with 10GB or so of data for pennies I'm a bit surprised I don't hear much about people doing old school self hosted direct access stuff over ipv6. Would there be much of a security risk

Just got really lucky. Someone hadn't a clue what they were selling, was listed as "Kobo e reader" or something very vague like that. Fully expected it to either be broken or not match the image. In general the Forma looks ov

Thanks for the clarification. I misread your top post as though it meant Signal was the main source for those things. Sorry for the confusion.

Do you know how much of this applies to older Kobos? I love my Forma but I'd rather start experimenting like crazy on a 2011 one first if I can.

Discussion mediums just don't seem to scale very well at all. Feels like we've arrived at a point where it's either this or walls of text where you spend more time trying to figure out what a post is replying to than you'

Telegram is overwhelmingly the app of choice for drug dealers with Whatsapp coming second, at least on a direct to customer level. No clue about CSAM but I'd really doubt it considering it requires a phone number.

I think a big pro for Bluesky from a tech perspective is how widely people are using their own websites as their handles and as verification. It doesn't do anything to protect Bluesky from going to hell but it does make it significantl

I got a Kindle (moving on from an absolutely ancient rooted Nook) purely because the Oasis looked so nice I'll never get a Kindle again because I was blown away by how impossible it was to repair (plus the closed system really sucks).

Possibly a shift from bulkier older laptops to tablet hybrids? 1366 x 768 definitely sounds like it's just an increase in older machines though.

My read of "certain games may not be fully compatible" wrt Ring Fit and Labo would be that they'll still potentially work with older joycons. Labo VR is the only one I can think of that definitely won't work.
