I guess I glossed over the claim that the author offered completely unsupported, yes. This is the fundamental problem here, you need to be completely absorbed into this information universe to just accept statements like "all coronavir

That article is really something, the first thing that jumps out: "Second, covid is not some magical entity, it’s a coronavirus, and it behaves like other coronaviruses, and other respiratory viruses more generally. It would be strange

Ok, how is that relevant? Coronaviruses collectively have been known for a long time, this was also true when the SARS outbreak occurred, is true during MERS. Likewise influenza was well known before the 1917 pandemic, or H1N1.. and?

There was not widespread serology testing but subsequent analysis has the WHO pegging the fatality rate at about 3% (as opposed to the 10% from the time of the outbreak itself). We didn't really shut SARS down so much as it seemed to h

For me personally the unknowns of such a new virus mean that the existence of the case studies would be enough to be concerned. And the strongest case is made by the fact that this virus' closest relative known to infect humans has cau

I am personally quite terrified of the possible unknown long term side effects of COVID-19 and largely confident that the vaccines are going to be safe. If you offered me a vaccine tomorrow vs a 100% certain mild case of COVID-19 that would

There seems to be a lot of quibbling about the simple sentence here but I find it clarifying. Discussing coin tosses is a thought experiment with a very practical physical analog so spelling out clearly what the thought experiment's

There are lots of large agricultural equipment companies engaged in real competition and John Deere doesn't have unlimited resources to buy up competition. You look at a company like SeedMaster that is in direct competition with JD in

This stuff is expensive because it is expensive to make. Versatile can deliver the same HP for around 25-30% off the the sticker price of a CNH or Deere, but that's really the bottom of the barrel in terms of margins and using commodit

Haha, love this: > lots of rain and 100m from the sea, 12 or so km from the open ocean If you are that close to salt water and don't have a problem it sure does seem to make the rust thing a red herring! Agreed, it is of the utmost

We have heavy, heavy soil here. We do wash equipment to make sure that wet soils are not left in the nooks an crannies of our equipment, but the idea that we'd have a frame rot away from rust.. that seems like a 100 year timeline issue

What about the rust is making your Massey 1100 unusable? I live in the Red River Valley, we have poor draining soils, a clay bottom, and almost no sand.
