Many people I know have always pirated software and TV and said once there was a reasonable way to get it legally they would pay for it. I haven't seen this be the case. I don't think you can convert pirates. It is possible howeve

While clearly it's not ideal for them to be using XP wasn't the British government one of the purchasers of extended XP support? Has that ended now?

The state of legal TV and film content in the UK is abysmal. I think it's really important that we consider that just because there's no legal way for me to watch say "The Americans" season 5 legally in the UK[0], I'

"There's nothing more annoying than selecting a file and having it removed due to a disallowed file type, therefore all files are allowed*." CTRL+F finds no other asterisk on the page, what's the caveat?

Yeah I thought about that, you could use the achievement rarity as I noted below. Whatever system you use developers will try and game it but I think there are ways of cutting out obviously bad achievements

Yep, you could use achievement rarity too. If 100% of all players get an achievement don't use it for recommending or 1% have it increase the weighting?

I think you could use Steam Achivements and playtime to recommend games to people. If I've played a game to completion on the highest difficulty presumably I like it. Find me other games that people with the achievement also play and h

You can't say you love the new MBP and that you recommend that anyone that buys one has a backup computer in the same comment...

I wouldn't describe myself as a VB fan but I don't hate it either. I would say however that there is harm in picking technologies that less developers know (or will be willing to learn). For your use of VB6 clearly it doesn't

I just bought a subscription to F-SECURE FREEDOME VPN after a bit of research but also heavily influenced by Troy Hunt's recommendation. It's currently discounted with the coupon code BlackFriday. Setup on the iPhone took 2 minute

The Stack Overflow developer survey would suggest that's not correct[0]. Mac OS X 26.2% Windows 7 22.5% Linux 21.7% Windows 10 20.8% Windows 8 8.4% Windows XP 0.4% Though it is possible that the sort of developers that use desktop linu

I certainly agree that Microsoft have been very underhanded in some of their approaches. What really grinds my gears though is the lack of interest people have in maintaining their tools. If your computer is central to running your busines

If this gains traction I don't think we'll feel the benefits till a little later down the line. I've contributed a little to the Swift tag but the real advantages come from technologies that don't already have good docum

Not especially, I was going to make the 2nd part of my comment regardless. I am however trying to consider the author more as I read online though in this case I don't think it adds any additional context.

I'd be interested in the health and safety of working around these systems. It feels like the sort of thing it would be very easy to forget the danger of as there's minimal moving parts and no scary sounds. Surprised a henchman ha

Troy Hunt wrote an interesting post on how he verfies breaches recently[0] The amount of fact checking tech "journalists" do means wrong information can really spiral out of control. I wonder if Dropbox can sue? [0] https:/&#

But the advantage of not having to switch apps is still missing on Android. I don't think it's "cramming it in" when that's the main benefit of the system.

It's very odd to me that Google would release this on iOS first. I understand the value of iOS market share but when you have your own platform... I think this looks really good, doesn't seem to be in the UK App Store yet or I
