not really a company, but for my (profitable) side projects I just serve the models with flask/wgsi, on a single server. its much cheaper than the cloud solutions, but I suspect it will fall over if it ever gets on hn..

the featured tab is manually curated. If they like your submission it's possible to end up on the front page the day after you submit, even with few votes (this happened to me a few times).

my thinking is basically: I'm not trying to sell, they're trying to buy - I don't need a quick cash infusion so not selling is my default, but if they want to convince me to sell they should be willing to pay a premium on top

My SaaS has similar revenue and I've thought about selling to fund other projects. In the past year 3 large companies cold emailed me about selling - one of them twice from different departments, but after a bunch of emails back and fo

I have a ton of advice for the 25 yr old me, but I think most of it wouldn't generalize well to other people. The one thing I'd stress to everyone is - don't take your (good) health for granted, it's really the foundatio

I think that's not a fair comparison - a digital control system needs much finer time slices to compete with human reaction time. A control system that worked off of webcam images at 4hz would be a jittery mess, or just very slow if us

you can't do timing sensitive stuff without an RTOS, because resources could be preempted by the os or other applications. it used to be that certain chipsets could do motor control by bitbanging the parallel port, but modern pcs/

a bit disappointed with the image quality. The original realsense r200 was probably the worst depth camera I've tried - it was barely better than two webcams and parallax processing. The new cameras doesn't look to be much better

yeah, the probability of death depends on a ton of priors so assuming the distribution is uniform is not quite right either. just intuitively though, a probability of .7% for dying before 50 seems way too low

what you're doing is (129+192+405)/100000 = 0.7% this means that out of 100k 25-50 yr olds 726 died during 2016. This is the probability that you will die during this year, given that you are a 25-50 year old, which is different f

I don't think that's the right way to look at the graph. It says that out of 100k 15-24 yr olds 74 died, and also out of 100k 85-1xx yr olds 13k died. This is purely a measure of death rates and doesn't take the age distribut

I quit my corporate software job in 2014 to travel (I was 26). I don't regret the choice, but the thing I didn't expect was how hard it would be to make friends without a school or work environment.
