On the other hand, I'm still using my Galaxy Note 3 (2013). Only some months ago did I eventually get around to flashing it from Lollipop to latest Lineage (android 10/Q). The battery is fine because I replaced it. 4G works fine.

The source material for this does, we have the potential to become a grabby species. In particular though one of the strange things we can observe about the universe is how early we are, relative to how long we expect the universe to last.

It's sort of mentioned indirectly at the beginning in that source-code scripts that use a shebang, or make use of exit, can introduce development barriers. I've not written many CL scripts but I like Roswell too, and haven't

I'll just say if you want to do Common Lisp, vim works fine, so don't let that hold you back from pursuing your interest. The slimv plugin is good. (Some people also like vlime better. To be honest I've had some buggy experie

In most of my courses that did something like this there was no resubmission.* The professor supplied a driver program, sample input the driver would use to test your program, expected output, and a Makefile template that gave you the 3 com

You shouldn't underestimate the novice. The professors who do such weeder classes will have the data though, so you don't have to believe anyone's experiences if you can instead ask a professor... For what it's worth tho

Web goes round and round. ActiveX, Java applets, and Flash all supported sockets. It is nice that we can have them now without such things, but it's not like they're only a boon with no tradeoffs.

Something I still find hilarious is that after a product I worked on started to enforce a content security policy, the #1 blocked source was always for google font resources. Of course users could whitelist the domains, but many didn't

Earlier when I was looking for what backend stack they used (I had forgotten they forked from Mastodon) I found an article from last November about their new CTO, and had a lol moment: "its newest CTO…former software engineer who spent

"XDD" for all X is overrated, in the sense that the ideas attract adherents who use them as the hammer for all nail-looking things. Yet the best way to present any XDD principles is to ignore the rest of the world and alternative

It would be wild if there was some coordination of an intentional vulnerability in Mastodon or one of its dependencies. I don't think it happened here but I can easily imagine the future of open source moving in that direction, i.e. tr

Little HN feature: if you click a comment's timestamp, you'll be able to "favorite" it. You can look at your (or anyone else's) favorites from the profile page.

The real security advice is: keep up to date with security patches. Staying up to date just because is not good advice. Gentoo has a nice system, "Gentoo Linux Security Advisories", where you can periodically run a program called

Making it so extensions don't auto-update themselves would be a helpful step in the right direction, it would cut down on the impact of when these things happen. Unfortunately I think we'll sooner see Firefox aping Chrome on this
