Hacker News is ostensibly focused on programmers building cool stuff. A famous tech company doing something fairly minor will therefore compete with big news from a branch of natural science.

Kinetic energy is proportional to velocity squared. So the 140mph car has twice as much KE as 2 cars at 70mph. It does depend how much of that energy is dissipated in the collision though.

Define "read" - you obviously don't mean "process" because that wouldn't make any sense. So you must be talking about something more specific?

How much of this is hindsight? The article seems to suggest that the 737 Max is poorly designed and incorrectly certified. Is the system really that broken? Who knew? Could anyone have known? Are other aircraft similarly flawed?

I wonder if we will discover that this tree is "hairy" - that there are thousands of isolated branches that departed from the main branch hundreds of millions of years ago. They wouldn't be "kingdoms", since they&#x

The author appears to fall into that category. They seem to acknowledge this: The above graph is misleading in one way though because it is dependent on a specific metric, GDT_TS, which only measures gross topology. If we care about high

I'm not sure how this would work for changes that would affect a whole program. For instance, say Go wanted to introduce a moving GC, and say that required removing interfaces as map keys. How could a function that returned a map[inter
