More like the market is expecting them to lose the $10 billion in the bank (spending on money losing core businesses) rather than return money to shareholders.

Amazon might be known for good support on the customer business, but I've not heard the same regarding AWS -- quite the opposite. If Google support were worse, it would have to just ignore you.

For those who are curious, Amazon uses a backend service to control what you see. They randomly hash your customer ID (which you can never see) and then assign you to a bucket. It's a sophisticated A/B testing framework that then

I think I hate that feeling because it usually comes up in the context of a bug. Something that's lived in the system for years. It's existed through a half dozen code reviews when related code is refactored. Then some college gra

It's a little different for a lot of other accelerators. YC takes batches of, what? like 40 companies or so in a batch? Most other accelerators are smaller with class sizes around 10. If YC is shooting for 40, and gets 37, it's ma

We learned MIPS and wrote a compiler for it. This was in 2002, so the compiler was in Java. Still a lot of fun. What were those two tools? LEX and YACC? Nostalgia. (Had to look those two up, I remembered them as LACC and YEX)

There are 2 classes of services on AWS: infrastructure and platform. It's important not to confuse them. Infrastructure includes EC2, S3, ELB, and things of that nature. Platform includes Beanstalk, Dynamo, EMR, and things of that natu

I got a FSM-270YG for under $400 delivered off of eBay. Controls are in Korean, but it's a monitor so it only has 4 buttons and it's pretty easy to figure out. I love it.
