What is the breaking point that forces us to create a more distributed, fault-tolerant internet that doesn't have us reliant on central authorities?

Ok let's say you make $300k/yr at a FAANG. Lose 40% to taxes and you're looking at $180k/yr. Living in SV your expenses will roughly be at least $45k/yr. So you save $135k/yr (180 - 45). That's great, but

Google just loves to waste your time. A close friend of mine interviewed there, was flown out to Mountain View, and one interviewer showed up to the interview over 30 minutes late, with only about 5-10 minutes to spare. He didn't get t

I'd have to see some stats to believe that because that's certainly not the trend I'm seeing. Nodejs is pretty strong, and generally the bottleneck is dev speed and network latency, not CPU performance.

While we're at it why don't we ban poor people from trading stocks because they're too stupid to manage their own money? /s Funny how these rules don't apply to gambling and lottery tickets.

He didn't mention bullying actually, he was just referring to not having friends due to "anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem". I can relate. I wasn't bullied in middle school, but I had no social skills and no confi

Seeing well architected code bases is how I went from total noob to "professional". You can't know what's good code if you've never seen good code before. There really should be a list of "good" codebases

That's false. In Clojure pretty much every single line of code has a minimum of two parenthesis (opening and closing). You can get all defensive about it, and of course one's perception of it is entirely subjective, but it's

This actually looks pretty cool. It's extraordinarily ambitious to create one's own language for frontend development, but I think you did a decent job.

Regardless of the maturity length of the debt instruments the Fed is buying, it is an increase in the money supply unless you're literally defining the money supply to include what the Fed is purchasing. So yea if U.S. government debt

Ok yes my statement applies more to fields like CS and math and not to fields that require a lot of physical equipment (eg. chemistry). I'm not claiming that the best way to learn is alone in your room, I don't even believe that t

Why the hell am I being downvoted? If you disagree, then explain why. Don't just downvote people because you disagree with their opinion, this is not Reddit (or at least it didn't used to be).

Yea those would be the exception. But then again, how many people majoring in biology or chemistry actually end up using anything they learn? I'd wager it's probably a small minority.
