I'm -$110k in net worth (due to student loans). Wonder what percentile that makes me.

Cool stuff. Was planning to do something similar but never got around to implementing the client-side rendering bit ( http://www.jbernier.com ). The codebase I work on at work is also isomorphic JS with React. Sharing client/

Most CS students aren't aiming to be computer scientists (which typically requires a PhD), they just want a job. And software engineering jobs demand CS degrees. I'm glad that people are creating alternatives to the traditional 4-

Well obviously the work of an incompetent programmer is going to increase the long run cost of maintaining code. That has nothing to do with the fact that Javascript is faster to develop in.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure starting salaries at GS and other banks are around $80-90k + a small bonus (10-20%?). Not bad, but definitely less than Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Amazon, and other major tech

There's nothing pedantic about it. Out of all the internships/jobs I've had, the far majority of anything I ever did was learned on the job. Often it was without much help or direction, and thus I was forced to teach myself.

Say you need to build an iOS app. Are you going to hire a guy with a CS degree, or a guy with 4 years experience building iOS apps and the portfolio to back it up? I'm not saying that skipping college is a smarter choice (for most peop

Don't listen to this guy, you don't need a degree (unless you're trying to be a doctor or lawyer). Most people are better off with a degree in the same sense that most people are better off taking an offer from Google over pu

They're ~$500 and ~$600... Anyone know where I can get a standing desk (don't care if it's adjustable) that isn't insanely expensive?

Thank you for this comment, seriously. I hear a lot of producers talk about the importance of music theory, but I've never actually seen anything useful. All it is is notation. Notation by itself is meaningless and does not make anybod
