Another issue with 401ks is if you're like a lot of folks that have had the wonderful luck to work at smaller companies that don't have 401ks or hand out benefits of any sort. An individual IRA maxes out at $5,500/yr so if en

Not I but only because I don't have one that fits right now. I definitely take a breather, make sure to have hydration around, and will hold off on playing a final if I've been drinking.

Upvote since I was never suspecting to see this mentioned on HN. It's not even a game I can describe to my gamer friends irl and have them understand the appeal.

I wonder if that correlates with my theory on companies that buy cheap/thin toilet paper and their treatment of employees.

Have also had issues for a month or so now. Weird stuff like trying to do a search in incognito mode, which should do a Google search, and it spinning forever.

That's Hollywood in a nutshell. If you don't want to do something, there's someone else that will sacrifice to do it. Works for companies too. VFX companies will take on a project they'll lose money on just to have a foo

They do that though. The past two years I've filed online with their free forms. I knew that I was taking more allowances and would owe. They said "hey, you actually owe us this". And then I sent them a check.

Honestly, I think all the "anti-government" people I've come across (normal ones, not moneyed SV people) would be ok if they could legitimately see and hear about how their local, state, and federal tax dollars are at work in

I agree somewhat but I doubt in today's political climate (esp. this administration) you would get anyone advocated for local or federal level control since the People seem to distrust any gov't and its ability to do a job (despit

I wasn't aware of that. I know that a lot of folks around here aren't fans of the government, but isn't this what a stronger FCC would be good for? I guess as long as the right person was appointed to the chair.

Not a whiner at all. It sucks. I'm on the job market now and the most feedback I get are from jobs that would be 45 min - 1 hr minimum (in the same city). I've done it before, it's terrible for my health and mental state. Mov

And all the movies about those folks show the same right? We, the norms, get to live vicariously through their partying, dishonesty, stupidity, etc then the fall comes and we get to laugh at them too. But secretly, we all think we can beat

Interesting. Company I used to work for reduced their LA office to a handful of people after laying off 2/3 of its workers to move operations to Vancouver. Everyone was considered 'contract' despite being on W2s so not sure.

Three months seems like way too long to know you're being laid off but I guess maybe the purpose is that it gives you time to find new work? In the US, it's just assumed that the ex-employee will be as malicious as possible and so

You have a lot of people fleeing expensive places like SF, LA, and NYC to Portland and Austin. Those rents are still cheaper and you get the same city amenities and some good places to work. So there's demand and until people see that

Rural Americans don't tend to think that the government is a functional entity and that going through that chain will net anything. They may have a valid point since only money talks in government these days.
