I agree. There's a measurable relationship "bonus" to my life in happy relationships - having someone who double checks my logic, notices things I missed, works when I'm sick, etc. make things much smoother.

This is super, super weird but could be huge. It's very Black Mirror, it sort of makes me uncomfortable but I can't explain why. I think it could be a much better version of what Facebook is trying to be, but .... something's

I have 0 support for this, but it the mixed race people I know tend to be much, much, much healthier. It makes sense when you think about inbreeding, but it's sort of weird to think about. A friend who is 100% Polish Jewish - a people

I have 0 problem with websites that serve up ads that: 1. Are from their own domain 2. Are not flash/autoplaying video 3. Don't track me/aren't ad tech 4. Actually have something to do with the content Run a homebrewing

If anyone knows a way to programmatically export reader-mode style PDFs, I can throw a quick website together or something.

I disagree - I think the one vendor open source thing works well, consider Node, Scala, VS Code, etc.

This is an odd posting. It's a (very) short history of the reasoning behind and purpose of the Mir project at Canonical, but doesn't hint at the future of the project or the team. It's a dictionary definition more or less, bu

I really, really miss that brief, beautiful period when the internet was ONLY stuff like this, and you just kind of wandered around.

That's a strong claim that you could probably support with data with little effort, but as it stands, it's conjecture. I do agree with your analysis, but it's a weak argument to incentive.

This sort of matches Duverger's Law[0], which holds that given a particular set of constraints that sound a lot like the smart phone market, you will always end up with 2 players/political parties. [0] https://en.wikipe

This doesn't mention a huge side effect of having so much of tech clustered in 3 regions - housing costs. It is so, so much cheaper to live in other places, and at this point the bubble is such that most of my friends aren't aware

On one hand, this is a truly incredible accomplishment for Google, and in so little time! On the other, it's sort of amazing this hadn't happened already - so, so many people in the developing world are entirely reliant on mobile,

Honestly, that it's not Github/BitBucket/etc. It looks pretty cool, but there's a great ecosystem out there already that I'd rather use for CI/Build/SCM.

Nah, the next frontier is more likely everyone fully consolidating around REST as it stands today. This looks like movement for movement's sake, instead of improving developer ergonomics in an increasingly predictable world. This is li

Given how many comments here lament the requirement to live in SV, this makes perfect sense. It's sort of shocking it hasn't actually started to happen, based on how much people talk about wanting to leave.

I don't see how that's relevant. It's also less than some 1 bed apartments in London, and it's more than 4357 people in the Congo make in a year. It just seems like agenda pushing.
