   I considered running the vectorization before showing any of the elements to the user, so the user would be editing everything as a vector. I didn't go with this approach since the results of the vectorization weren't consistently

   Try https://vectorizer.ai/ it's main purpose is to convert images (rasters) into vectors (SVG). But it has great line detection and color acquisition, give it a go. Bare in mind that this will only work for images, so
