The degree to which you can extract energy from heat depends on the temperature difference compared to ambient. Efficient power stations all need super heated steam (like 600C). This would be like 100C max which is not very useful for gener

Presumably they are excluding non-native Germans using difficult German language requirements? Tbh I wish my current employer had higher (or any) English language requirements. It makes meetings (especially video calls which is all of them)

The amount of work is not a fixed number, it's more of a supply/demand curve. Do we need 100 programs? Yes definitely! 10k? Yes. 1m? Probably. 100m? Uhm... 1bn? Probably not. So there will always be a point where people aren'

It also makes zero sense. You don't have to admit that you have a small penis to take legal action against someone that writes an insulting version of you with a small penis. People are not identified by their penis size.

Read this guy's ramblings and give me one cool application that he has found. Lots of "maybe it could do this!" and "it can do <completely useless thing>!"

Do trains have real time position sensing and reporting now? Feels to me like that should be something that could (and should) have been done 20 years ago at least. You don't even need GPS - even wheel-based odometry should work very w

This is pretty much just rambling about how amazing aluminium foil is because it's so thin and that might enable all sorts of wonderful imaginary applications. Very HN. It's aluminium foil.

Is this actually based on GPS (or similar) on the trains, or is it just interpolating signal times (which are waaaay coarser)?

This definitely isn't another Theranos. Theranos claimed to have a blood test that didn't actually exist. This is "just" standard ultrasound but with a much wider aperture than normal. There's no new science, it

Not being able to image inside the lungs is probably only a minor limitation really. There's also inside the head, and inside the rib cage is going to be awkward too due to bones. Also ultrasound just isn't that good of an imaging

RST is pretty much the worst option out there. Your mainstream options are: * Markdown. Great for simple stuff. It's going to be awkward if you're writing a book or technical docs or whatever. * RestructuredText. Better for more c

No his point is that this is surprising because people have the wrong idea of what the Aztec empire is. It's like saying "the population of the City of London is only 8500 people!" - it's only surprising because it'

Terrible name. It's going to fail on those grounds alone. Not that it would really succeed otherwise. You need Android app compatibility to stand a remote chance.

There are literally hundreds of actions that could be (or in some cases have been) taken. I think the vast majority need to be taken by the government. Individuals mainly need to to support and demand these actions from the government, and

And yet there are still climate change deniers here. Look at any BBC article about this where they enable comments and about a quarter of the upvotes are for denier comments. Absolutely insane.

Stupid idea. Doctors are incentivised to just give out a sick note to anyone that asks. There's no downside for them if they do that, and if they don't, they get complaints from the public. It seems likely to me that we will end u
