Interesting... so is this going to be "a better PHPBB / IP.Board / Forumcircle" or something much more customisable? It sounds like the latter, but it would be interesting to hear how that would work. A good plugin architecture, and ecosyst

Indeed, I have heard from a few friends who worked in consulting that hourly productivity held steady up to around 60 hours/week. Over 80/hours per week, it dropped off rapidly. Between those two figures was an ambiguous zone.

Is genius born, or made? Clearly, it's a combination of both, but which factor is more important? Are geniuses the genetic elite, the 0.00001% of humanity? They appear only rarely, but their genius shines through wherever they appear? Or ar

"What should one do about this as a startup and as an investor in startups?" Surely this only matters if you're in an area where people are spending lots of money. There are plenty of areas where they aren't. Even in such an area, the boots

This is Roissy's new blog, correct? I don't know, the guy's writing just creates a strong, visceral negative reaction in me. Complete 'ugh' reaction. Like the worst parts of 4chan, it's disgusting, horrifying, and strangely compelling. I th

Out of interest, are you familiar with Venkatesh Rao's "Be Slightly Evil" mailing list? He has a similar worldview to you (cynical realpolitick as an amoral tool, usable for good or evil).

No, I'm the same way. Or at least I've started to become that way. Conversations about all the cool technologies someone has used in their stack bore me. Or hearing about the wonders of automated testing. Etc, etc. I find it quite useful, t

My question as well. Though I think you can scale service businesses, they scale differently to product businesses. (E-myth revisited provides a roadmap). But yes, cleaning is already a crowded market, and if someone could make the "Starb

In China I heard that many older Chinese people can't drink milk, but the younger generation (who've drank it all their lives) can. Apparently there were lots of parents who couldn't drink milk themselves who would go to the "milk shop" eve

Yes, I'd much prefer if journalists would switch from using "X is dead" to "X is dying". Dying is a much better analogy than dead. Dead things don't do anything. Dying things might die quickly (cassettes) or they might die slowly (typewrite

Yes, you're right. There's some terrible Ruby and Python coders, and some of the best programmers in the world use PHP. However, this post was aimed at non-technical people. If you don't know much about tech, and try to hire PHP programmers
