Mirrors and lenses, too! Using a dormant black hole as a telescope could be a really interesting way of gettong a good look at some really distant objects. Getting in position to use it as such would be challenging, to put it mildly.

Yup. Henry Kissinger was a big part of that nonsense, along with a whole bunch of equally sinister stuff. The cluster bombings of Vietnam, Cambodia, and Korea were in many ways directly the result of his machinations.

Right- I feel a Raspberry Pi and a bluetooth module (or a handful of them) would be a lot cheaper. Set it up to repeatedly ping everything in range, stick it to a battery pack, and just go about your business. It would certainly illustrate

IANAM (not a microbiologist): I believe that it is achieved through CRISPR edited yeast, or possibly another easily cultured bacterial species (E. Coli perhaps?). The cells replicate and are then portioned and lysed, the solution is spun do

The russian people are an economic casualty in this sense. In many ways they did not choose Putin as their leader, but they still serve to support him (intentionally or otherwise) as citizens of the country he sits atop of. The state appara

Dangerous can be necessary, unfortunately. The US healthcare system for instance routinely fails large demographics of people, leaving them to foot the bill for excessively expensive medication that increases in price year after year (despi

Thats not quite accurate- it is true that high amp current is deadly in many scenarios, but it takes both amps and volts to kill. High amp, high voltage current is a killer for sure, but high current at sufficiently tiny voltages is not nec

Police will often overcharge, with the intent that the DA can use the more severe charges to secure a plea deal for lesser charges. It makes for less paperwork and fewer cases to process through jury trials.

"Burner" seems to perfectly describe the use case: the phones are acquired for a particular situation (presentation to privacy-hostile government), used to minimal effect for the duration, and then discarded (burned). Just because

That sort of dark pattern could ostensibly be audited and statistically analyzed by researchers in the wild. To be fair, much of what we knew before the whistleblowers and leaks was due to this sort of analysis.

Things don't just sort out though. Where does that money go? If it goes back into a project that is equally as environmentally destructive, you've just laundered the carbon. Given that the institutions responsible for implementing

I completely agree with you there. Capitalism got us into this mess- it's naive to think it will get us out of it. I was just pointing out that population control is a bit of a "knife's edge" discussion: there are ways

Carbon tax gets proposed often, but it does not work on its own as a singular policy. Existing implementations of this see the money raised by the carbon tax diverted to equally environmentally costly ventures. There really is no easy way t

Diffusion works both ways, too. Oxygen outside of the membrane will also slowly diffuse into the hydrogen and helium mix, further complicating any attmpts to remain non-combustible.
