I haven’t read Discworld. Although funnily enough I worked in a team where our services were named after Discworld characters, so I’m aware of _some_ lore lol. That said.. it’s kind of daunting to start a series with so many books, and I co

That can still be an expensive costing hundreds to thousands of dollars once you add additional lenses etc. Even hundreds of dollars for a camera is not “throw away money” for a lot of people..

Oof. The initial media report might actually have caused material (financial) damage to Kodak. If someone was shopping around for a Kodak product, saw that original article, they likely decided against Kodak. I personally wouldn't feel

Ah, I can't recall the last time I uploaded an image to the web, so I guess I wouldn't run into this. Interesting if reproducible.

Appreciate this comment! The fact that despite these issues you still recommend it is quite telling. I'll see if I can get one for my M1 iPad. Typing with the on-screen keyboard just isn't that convenient for longer sessions.

I use chrome on my work machine and Firefox on my personal machine. Haven’t ran into breaking bugs with FF (that I can remember), and I don’t notice a meaningful performance difference. Have been using FF for probably 10-15 years now.

I wrote a programming book fully on my iPad, including the coding examples, often while traveling abroad. But, I usually had it hooked up to a 60% keyboard and mouse, and I SSHd into an EC2 instance for the programming parts. Still, pretty

I’ve been considering getting the folio, because I can no longer find the Magic Keyboard for my generation iPad (m1). Kinda annoying that they don’t continue peripherals for their older devices

We're experimenting with Lakebase now (Databricks' name for Neon). Initial results are actually pretty cool when using the UI to spin it up. The API leaves some things to be desired (bad error messages that obfuscate the actual er

Good luck with the startup. TBH, I think going for as much managed solutions as possible while you bootstrap makes sense. Something more tailor-made often doesn't make sense until you start scaling.

Ha, you might have better memory than me. From the opening of the books - I remember more vividly Arthur meeting Ford Prefect and his house being demolished. And vaguely something about a pub? So I think I remember the gist of the first ch

Someone explain to me why this matters please. The emails (passively) stored on HDD/SSDs in a data centre wouldn't be the main contributor to heat generation and the needs for cooling. What would probably increase heat and the nee

The results from a smaller model are still viable if the paradigm is identical. Unless you believe that larger volumes of data leads to more (unexplained) emergent properties of the AI. i.e, if you think that a larger volume of training dat

One of my reports was a hardcore HHGG fan, including carrying a towel on towel day. He signed off with the "so long and thanks for all the fish", and I don't think anyone read anything negative into this. In fact, while that

I kind of wish I had that. The closest thing I have to this is my Steam screenshot library, which is just memories of games - or social interactions. on games. I just checked and the oldest one is back from 2011. Prior to Steam they would h

I actually resonate with this as well, but similarly can't really explain why. I have my own set of dotfiles (one set for my 'home setup' and one set for my 'work setup'). They are versioned and stored on GitHub, an

I guess it’s better for non-fiction books in that case. Similarly I would be upset if the LLM spoiled a fiction book somehow.. like figuring out which characters will die in GoT before reading it.

I've only seen two episodes of The Expanse after reading the books, but I will 100% upvote the book series. It's one of the best sci-fi series I've read in years. I kind of want to give the series another go, I just rarely wa
