This is pretty cool and it shows how commonplace eSports has become. I played 'esports' before that was a term and before it was this popular and had any mainstream awareness. Essentially we had large LAN-parties with some competi

I don’t think they will get any moat. I might be wrong on this of course, but I don’t see a killer feature for these stochastic parrots that can’t be easily replicated

I did for maybe the first 10 years of my career. Then it kinda died down because family and other obligations increased so had less and less spare time. Also, the older I’m getting the more I’m prioritizing activities that benefit my body.

I'm a millenial (early 90s) and only barely remember trolls and have no idea what beanie babies are. Homogeneous generations ("millenials, genZ,..") are kind of meaningless, there's too much variation within generations

That takes more effort. If you have someone’s phone for 2 minutes while they are in the washroom or whatever, going through texts is harder than just asking chatGPT

At some point I got curious about how close ChatGPT would get to my Myers-Briggs profile based on my chats over the past year. It accurately got my type.. could be a coincidence of course, but I thought it was quite interesting. It also pro

Not hard to use. I meant hard to understand what the limitations are for non tech users. E.g people who think AGI is just around the corner because we now have stochastic parrots.

I think most level-headed people can see this is a giant bubble which will eventually burst like the dot-com crash. And AI is technology that's hard to understand to non-technical (and even some technical) investors. But of course, eve

Yeah but it’s in a pretty limited zone IIRC. Just some states and areas have it, and it’s definitely not yet a common practice.

Unlike the author, I think that the value of writing code in my free time (or well, the joy more than the value) has diminished greatly. I took a lot of 'pride in the craft', and I used to really enjoy hacking away on new projects

lol that’s an interesting comparison. Another angle is that our categorization of what is atypical is the actual problem, and not the symptom itself.

I actually don’t want emojis on here. I prefer the current “early 2000s” look. I don’t see it being a good thing for discussions if they are littered with emojis. And we still have good old ASCII :-)

Humans are social animals, and if I’m being pretty reductionist this paper states “being social is healthy for social animals. Being healthy means longer life spans”. So not too much of a surprise there. Edit: still valuable to do research

In all fairness, the “immigration” story is likely just a convenient spin on a more realistic goal of state surveillance on it’s own citizens.

It’s kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy. You watch one conspiracy video, the algorithm learns and recommends more of it. Humans absorb what we see around us and our identity is now also formed by what we consume. So essentially you get a ty

I’m a pro user.. but this just seems like a way to make sure users engage more with the platform. Like how social media apps try to get you addicted and have them always fight for your attention. Definitely not interested in this.

My ex-wife didn’t have a my stable job the last ~6 years of our marriage. She would find a job, say it made her feel miserable, and quit within months. She would often be “dragging her feet” when it came to applying for jobs. I’m convinced
