And even today, our species' cousins (Chimps) are rudimentary tool users. Recently saw a documentary where they evolved their 'tools' to get honey from a 1-stick approach to a 3-stick approach.

Beyond just the usual inflation? I'm not an economist either, but I also assume that as the country attracts more local talent for local companies, the competition for outsourcing becomes harder. (i.e, you now have to pay more than the

I finished the first two bobbiverse books, then got sidetracked during the third book (reading Guns, Germs and Steel) and am now on a history/biology binge instead. But that said, the first two were great books and I'll get back t

Word also kind of sucks. My biggest gripe is that it doesn’t understand markdown input. And once you add tables to the word doc, it turns into even more of a mess to work with.

Similar to the article, I always think of it as my job to make sure the team has the mechanisms in place to continually deliver high quality software, even without me. I once had a senior engineer blatantly say: “that means you’re just bein

John is now on a mission to make AGI a reality. I’d say given his own investment there, he’s probably positive about it. Just speculation on my part of course. Also, “masters of doom” is such a good book. Recommend it for anyone who wants t

I'm not saying money wasn't a factor in his decision to do this for a livestream, but it clearly wouldn't be the only factor and I doubt that would make him stop. (He free solo'd before, without cameras, although not thi

I guess watching the film ('free solo' is the one you mention) is the lowest effort way of getting his perspective and I recommend the film. For a deeper dive, the book "Alone on the wall" is a good read and I recommend

We watched the livestream together, such a stressful watch, glad he made it up there. As my partner and both do bouldering, it definitely gives another level of appreciation of just how insane this is. (I still get stressed at times when I&

It depends on the culture/religion. Not everyone celebrates birthdays. I had multiple ICs ask me not to say public birthday wishes, as they didn’t celebrate their birthday and/or did not want the rest of the team to know.

I think the last line is important. Proton isn’t perfect, neither are others. And proton is imo the best suited to my (current) needs. I’m a (mostly) happy paying customer for their email, and also use their VPN and Authenticator. My worst

No need to be so aggressive about it lol, can just correct the parent poster. Personally I didn't know Biden rolled it back, and I just assumed it would only now take effect after having been 'in limbo'. :)

I have a really simple app that I asked various models to build, but it requires interacting with an existing website. (“Scrape kindle highlights from the kindle webpage, store it in a database, and serve it daily through an email digest”).
