I'm vegetarian and used to live in EU. Strong +1 to this, many more meat alternatives than in Canada/US, and the options taste better whilst being overall healthier. The amount of fat and salt in the products in NA is sad to see.

Back in Europe I had many good meat alternatives in grocery stores that were quite budget friendly as well. Like vegetarian 'Schnitzel', 'chicken', 'fish'. Here in NA, most of the meat alternatives are breaded,

For some anecdata, I've set up Qwen3.5 on a RX 7900XTX last weekend. It runs fine, did some simple coding prompts and got responses in 15-30 seconds. It's my first foray into running models locally just to see what's possible

I guess most of my use is whilst driving, to start/stop music or audiobooks, change navigation etc. Although changing navigation through Siri is somewhat painful as it often gets my intended destination wrong lol.

Yup, and the ceiling could be at 11% or at 50%. But my bet is closer to a lower-range ceiling than an upper-range. Model's are no longer revolutionary, they are evolutionary, and the evolution and per model-version difference is narro

It's been some years since I've seen The Office, but I thought David was the only somewhat reasonable person. Don't see how he would match up with the sociopath either, but my memory might be failing me.

That's an interesting idea. But IMO the real 'token saver' isn't in the language keywords but it's in the naming of things like variables, classes, etc. There are languages that are already pretty sparse with keywor

That relies on a programmer doing the right thing and knowing when to use the escape valve. From the codebases I've seen, I don't trust humans in doing the right thing and being judicious with this. But it's a good point, kno

It's only going to get worse with the brain drain as a result of the layoffs. Which will increase the use of AI assisted coding and increase the number of outages related to this. Imagine having to debug code that caused an outage when

Whenever I see claims about AGI being reachable through large language models, it reminds me of the miasma theory of disease. Many respectable medical professionals were convinced this was true, and they viewed the entire world through this

Yup exactly. And when animals are bred specifically for milk, they aren't treated well even before they are killed. Dairy cows need to be kept continuously pregnant / in lactation state through artificial insemination. They don&#x

Looking at the stuff China puts in their food (like the actual instant noodles), definitely a red flag if even they ban it. Generally I look at EU for what's good/bad to consume though. It's scary how much stuff is banned the

Sorry that you’re going through this. I got divorced after a 10 year marriage last year. Although it was amicable, going from a house (with a dog) to living alone is pretty tough. Other people have said the same, but strong +1 to staying ac

“Attention is all you need” was published 9 years ago, and gpt3.5 burst onto the scene 4 years ago. Progress is slower than people seem to think. Of course AI as a field is half a century old. But on the other hand, AI had a period of rapid

In “Ask HN style”, let’s say that software engineering does go extinct in the next X years, what would you do? I’ve thought about psychology. I know LLMs can work as pseudo-therapists but I feel like that’s a field where the human connectio

That’s an amazing project. It’s kinda sad that nowadays most AAA games are so locked down that the player will never get into modding. For myself it started with Jedi Knight, and then eventually mods on the Source engine (CS:S / HL2).

Yeah I go bouldering even on off days to “stay in the rhythm”. And I do have honestly terrible days where I feel I’m struggling climbs of even a grade below my comfort level, but at least I went lol.
