I wish this web page used a smaller font, 24px (18pt) is really, really large. (HN comments are 9pt.) The page's ToC uses 60% of the body font, which is ~10pt.

>In other languages you have exceptions, polymorphism, implicit constructors, destructors (and their order in case of inheritance, templates, etc. Of these, Rust has only destructors :)

I'm so sick and tired of seeing spinners that keep spinning, even after the process failed; this is an epidemic in web apps, where failures are often a bit too graceful and application state is silently corrupted.

Are you really arguing that Rust is currently redundant because of a language that hasn't hit v1.0.0 yet, has no industry support, and doesn't use a modern build system or package manager?

>Fortunately we have both dry erase boards and a chalkboards to keep track of such things. What an incredibly bad-faith argument. Whiteboard and blackboard refer to the physical color of the board. The reason people don't like white

Rust treats parameters identically to local variables, since they are just local variables. All rules that apply to variables also apply to all function arguments (including `this`/`self`).

> standard library is allowed to do stuff normal libraries are not allowed to do. How does this work, given that it's still written in C++? Is there special casing in the compiler to define the behavior?

For those unaware, * do not use this on modern systems. * Normal for-loops are much faster than they were when Duff's Device was invented, since they take advantage of modern branch prediction.
