I think that 1.7x size reduction - is well enough. Also I think that 5-7x is also valid numbers. But this reductions came from YAGNI, which is more idiomatic for python than java.

Honestly, I can't understand in which way your charts is more readable than pie charts. I frequently use combination of graphic, histogram and bar chart with one pie chart. Graphics - for chronological data, pie chart - for absolute values.

More advanced query plan generators in commercial DBs. On other side: 1. PostgreSQL and MySQL are catching up (for example: Table elimination) 2. You can always throw saved money in hardware. 40 thousands per core (Oracle) - is ridiculous.

My not humble opinion: so called "Object-relational impedance" is inevitable. Why? Because on one side we have Relational Algebra - simple clear theory (I can explain it to 8 year children). And on other side we have something amorphous, d

Yes. Business logic as far as possible must be expressed in declarative way. Java have very poor facilities for declarative programming. SQL (not PL/SQL) on other side - is pure declarative language. It's already powerful DSL if you master

I think that object oriented languages (e.g. java) is not well suited for business logic. Putting all logic in DB also provides natural separation of concerns. UI in one place, business logic in another.

"ORMs aren't the problem here, databases not designed for use by programmers is the problem" I can paraphrase it as: ORMs aren't the problem here, relational databases are problem. I don't think that letter R is to blame. Letter O is culpri

I really want downvote you. Excuse me for arrogance, but it's not their fault that Django (or Pylons or Flask) can't work on Python 3. Look at http://flask.pocoo.org/docs/foreword/ "Because of that we strongly recommend against using Pyt

Totally agree. I think it's because "ultra strict" and "dynamic" both oriented on programmer. "Non-strict" oriented on compiler. "Ultra strictness" and dynamic typing in different ways, but both gives help to programmer. Non-strict is just

The simplest method of creating SOAP-services is use of SQLServer SOAP Endpoint. Just one line for SOAP from stored procedure or function. Is it beautiful? I don't think so. SOAP remains SOAP, ugly remains ugly.

Class methods are not so useful in python as in java and C#. I think that classmethods was added only for java/C# folks. In fact it's always better just to combine defs in module and use it as module.method. I like the approach in Scala wit

In SQLServer in general it's better to write one time SET TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL READ UNCOMMITTED, than write hint NOLOCK agains each table. Result is the same. This is not a hint for planner. You can write it for PostgreSQL also (I me
