Agreed that processes in Erlang is even better objects than objects in OOP. >>I cannot express my concurrency ideas-- that erlang makes super easy-- in the OO languages. In fact main Erlang ideas are many times "stolen". I discover

Armstrong fan here :) Jokes away - the "really great programmers" for me are people who can do extremely complex things very simple. For me, Armstrong is somewhere near Peter Norvig. Both made me change my point of view, some complex things

If you trying to write FP in Python - you're in trouble. (Python is my main language for several years) It does not have "mandatory OOP" but it remains as mainly imperative OO-language with some FP-goodness. C# is the same, Java - not.

Even more - encapsulation is not always mean OOP. Erlang have encapsulation more strong than in any OOP language - all you have is server process and messages thrown to it.

I don't like them also. Even more - I hate this title. And I'm a SA at my current employer. But Chris talk about right SAs - programmers with strategic thinking responsible for architectural decisions.

I'm main Architect in my current company now. And I hate this title - I've seen too many so-called architects who can't distinguish SOAP-call and MQ-message. Q: You have WebSphere Process Server - do you use BPEL for your scoring workflows?

Instead of language D I see digitaldaemon.com. What does it means? Another "info suicide"? Weird.

Use both. "Execute OS command" task is the most powerful component in all ETLs. And every ETL-tool must have command-line utility to run it from scripts. We have: a) ETL-packages that only coordinating a lot of small scripts b) And s

Factories is not bad in practice. Essentially closures, curried functions, partial evaluated is the same thing: code that generate code. I'm not a java developer

I applaude your attempt to say that SQL is "real world FP". But you made your claim too big. SQL (even with recursive CTE) is still just a DSL for relational data. Even more: DSL for relational data only .

Yes, eevee is right. I'm talking about http://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-3104 New keyword nonlocal and ability to have better closures.

Python 3 is not "really that new" and Python 2.6-2.7 is not "old" in any way. In fact we have: pre-2.4 (really old, preinstalled on old Redhats), 2.4-2.7, 3.x Python 3 is curing problem with variable visibility (and if you do not write in "

I've met a lot. Java, .NET, C++ guys. Sometimes it's hard to convince them that even particular OO-flavor is not the end of the road. C++ - guys thinking that OO in C++ is the best, java-guys thinking that extensions methods ruins OO in C#,

"Higher Order Perl" is the book I learned most how to write functional python code. Yes. I haven't read not a single python book. "Dive into python", "Essential Python", LPHW was boring. I recommend HOP for every programmer.

I use 1215b with E450 and I can agree that it's a good product. I'm also using 6Gb RAM in it, but I don't understand purpose to put SSD in such book. If you put SSD in 1215b - price becomes comparable with ASUS UX21E. "True" ultrabook.

I like underscores for all magic methods. And I think you're right about __init__ - constructors are not magic. But in fact, I like "word" __init__ even more outside of python. I use it to name directories for all new, incoming, uncategoriz

The best "singleton" for me is python module. Import is the constructor of singleton. Python itself controls single initialization of object.

I'm totally agree with you. I think that even 5-year is enough. What harm for Id Software was in open-sourcing Doom, Quake 1-3 ? Several years ago Win2K code was leaked - what harm for Microsoft was in it? I suppose zero.

Thanks. I will propose do something like this on my work. Even if it's not practical, it will be fun to implement it.
