A 20-30x increase in costs being a problem for your business isn't indicative of being in an unhealthy low-margin business per se, quite the opposite. If you were operating in a 95% profit margin industry, which is an insanely generous

This is pretty insane, I think it's about time that tech companies start to honour longer-term contracts and give more notice, even on their hobbyist service offerings. I mean, imagine a local grocery store who's rent would go up

The potential value of an engineer is unlike anything else. At the time of Whatsapp's acquisition by Facebook they had 10m users per employee and a roughly $500m valuation per employee. That's pretty insane if you think about it,

Isn't production 20k a month and pre-orders >400k right now? Doesn't seem like a couple a month right now and at all. Of course it could dwindle fast from here on out, but even if production doubles you'd still be looking

A ridiculous amount of people, institutions, resources. There's just no media drama. The effort is there, although not large enough imo.

Some countries will let the market figure out prices but will offer a sliding scale rent subsidy. From an income of 15k a year and below you get 100% rent subsidy, which falls down to 0% at an average income of say 40k.

A lot of places have something like this. For example, the Netherlands has no capital gains tax or dividend tax, but it has a tax of roughly 1% - 1.5% of your net assets. So if you have a $300k investment property, it's taxed like that

Somehow this reminds me of the history of lobster as cheap food for the poor and imprisoned. People detested it. Until of course the status of lobster changed. Or the fact aluminium used to be extremely expensive and thus used for the most

On housing there are some caveats: - it's a consumer-driven market, higher prices made a lot of ordinary citizens rich. It's not money that disappeared into a few rich shareholders' pockets like say in the medical industry. -

Yup. Real median personal income in the US is up. [0] Although there have been few gains in the past decade. It's a pretty decent measure of the average American. It's also a bit better than wages as a measure of average citizen&#

How I understand it is this: Everyone creates 100 units of pollution together, say ten firms producing 10 units each. Then they say, you can only use 90 next year, 70 the next decade, 50 the decade after. Everyone needs to reduce pollution

How though? I mean, houses themselves haven't really gotten much more expensive. Two things have happened. One, we're all living much larger than before. i.e., our average home sizes have doubled in about 50 years, while the numbe

Doesn't work like that. Return rates on assets average about 6% or so. i.e., if you invest $100, you expect a $6 annual income. In other words, a $100b investment would expect a $6b annual income. Take average PE ratios for example, ab

Are you factoring in the price of your financing? I very often see that ignored. You either need to include financing costs, or opportunity costs. Spending e.g. $20k isn't free, either you don't have it and need to borrow, or you
