This is nice in theory. In practice you can take rights away (obviously) and so protecting them instead is functionally identical to giving them. Mincing words about inalienable rights from the inside of a gulag falls rather flat to me.

You pretty much nailed my reasons as well. Trying to explain that updating model results for this month's data will take 12 hours usually does not go over well. The learning curve to move stuff to Rust would be considered well worth

My workflow usually reads something like this: 1. Import data using hand-written SQL from SQL server (read_sql) 2. Perform various filtering, aggregation, math (loc, iterrows/itertuples, groupby, agg) 3. Push results either out to deli

Everyone does. On the other hand I, and many others I assume, aren't willing to move to R for the sake of the one superior tool over python. Two if you count ggplot2, I suppose.

A good Rust equivalent to Pandas is really the main thing keeping me from switching to Rust for about half of my day job. This is incredibly promising, and I am following your work with great interest. Thank you for working on this!

SQL is in heavy use in almost every business and government agency. I'm not sure what your objection there is...

Generally I agree. I don't know enough to really weigh in, but I suspect some combination of shipping logistics and trade agreements are the cause.

You must be able to see how someone who roasts their own beans and has a preferred sourcing vendor and someone who says "it's just coffee" are basically not even interacting with the same thing at that point, right? That&#

I miss the codeless code. Wish someone would take up that mantle.

Fascinating topic, but in terms of real meat the explanation offered for the phenomenon described is distressingly shallow. Common sense tells us as much and more about why this is happening.

Seems like a really cool project. If you're at all concerned with keeping it reasonably easy to find, you may want to know that the name Ecosim is in use by software for simulation modeling of trophic energy flows in ecosystems. https

Let's not pretend that "looking busy" isn't part of most office culture. There are times at most jobs, statistically, where you have nothing expected of you but are still required to be at a desk and look like a member

See, this is just absolutely true. When 7 or so of the top 10 most successful games of the last decade all share features like global matchmaking, you can't tell me those features bring more trouble than value. I agree there are hard

The linked py2nim github is basically empty, though some forks of it show substantial content. Was this project intentionally pulled down?

Do you have a tutorial or book you'd recommend for how to pursue this kind of workflow? I'm definitely interested as I dabble in more languages and am beginning to struggle with some of these kinds of environmental details

It's wild how much faster iterrows and itertuples are. I wish I'd known a year ago. This is one of those cases that really isn't just pedantic, "pythonic", nagging. It matters.

Absolutely this. It baffles me how many people can understand and repeat ad nauseum "nobody ever got fired for buying IBM" but don't get the role a consultant plays in corporate strategy.

There's a name for this approach, they call human-AI teams "centaurs". It's a fascinating concept. I am deeply curious if eventually that will be outstripped by pure AI too. I believe so.

It's a gamification choice. Watching those numbers tick up is proven to be addictive and keep people on the site.

I think that distinction is strictly connotative. From pure definitions, human trafficking and "people smuggling" are synonymous.
