Not true. Many of the problems described by gp wouldn't affect the fuel efficiency of the truck, but still vastly increase the pollutants the truck puts out. Replacing your catalytic converter with a steel pipe is the obvious way to g

Protecting agriculture can also serve to reduce the impact that the war or large scale crop failures elsewhere in the world might bring. The resulting safety might be worth the market inefficiencies caused by tariffs.

Using markdown doesn't fix the problem of having to escape double quotes, unless you are using a literate programming technique where the clojure code is quoted inside of the markdown instead of vice versa. Using macros only works if

I really wish clojure would adopt a heredoc syntax to make embed language snippets and docstrings nicer.

The accuracy requirements for e911 are quite low and are given in terms of a target average. From Wikipedia: > Wireless network operators must provide the latitude and longitude of callers within 300 meters, within six minutes of a reque

This isn't about dispensing justice. This is about my personal right to own my experience of my life and those I interact with. Saying that my anger over having been abused by someone is no longer justified just because the courts ha

Judging from how hard it can be to sleep during a full moon while camping, I'd say the reason humans aren't generally affected by it is because they sleep underneath opaque shelters that block direct light.

The space stations we've built have all been in LEO. The ISS would deorbit in less than two years without periodic boosts. As such, no nearby orbit can be considered stable. The fuel required for boost is proportional to its mass. So

Not exactly an architectural masterpiece but Jungle Jim's in Cincinnati is home to whole lot of second hand amusement park kitsch. http://media.cmgdigital.com/shared/lt/lt_cache/thumbnail/960... ht

That might be true, but to establish that state we'd have to kill off the native grazers. People tend to forget that before we had vast herds of domestic cattle in the western plains we had vast herds of bison, antelope, etc.

I used and enjoyed circuitlab.io until it went for-pay only. Nice to have an easy to use free alternative for very casual hobbyists like me.

I think that this is generally bad advice. It results in worlds that feel more like a series of zoo enclosures than a living world. Cities built around this concept end up feeling more like an amusement park than a place where people live

One usability issue I noticed with both this and the original inspiration is that it's hard to keep the globe in the usual north-south orientation. I feel the map would be easier to stay oriented in if the the north-south axis were re

police reports of accidents are public record, you should be able to pretty easily go from crash data to personal identity based on public records. Sounds like PII to me.

Having used java serialization a few times for POC level work, I'll be sorry to see it go. I wish they would just rename it something sufficiently ominous sounding that people wouldn't think about using it on untrusted data source
