I really don't mind RTO. As a mostly-remote worker right now, I would actually prefer a few office days each week; being right next to colleagues and able to spitball news, ideas, and other work (and non-work) stuff is great for my kn

Kleenex and Xerox were both (somewhat) recently in danger of loosing theirs. They both pulled pretty big campaigns to un-verb their trademarks. Google still has a bunch of other products that people are familiar with, so they are in less

The problem is there isn't enough data here. Killing 5 motorcycles isn't great, but if human driver killed say 100 in the same sample, 5 is actually pretty good. Of course if human drivers kill 1 or 2 in the same sample, 5 is re

Just because it's in the title, doesn't mean the paper supports it. I just skimmed the summary, but didn't notice any proof of "engineering". How do we know that chimpanzees weren't just selecting materials th

I use zsh-histdb, and it's amazing. It shows return statuses and which directory the command was run from. I honestly can't remember the entire setup, but my dotfiles that have the setup are here: https://github.com&#x

I don't speak Spanish, but I'm pretty sure Mexicans don't call it "The Gulf of Mexico"... Probably something along the lines of "El gulfo de Mexico". Can we just localize the translations?

I used Notes to edit a text file once and learned a very important lesson; It changes all your double-quotes to fancy Unicode double-quotes. They may look prettier, but they completely break the code you are working on.

NIST has explicitly said you shouldn't use SMS 2FA for a while now: NIST SP 800-63B §5.1.3.3. https://pages.nist.gov/800-63-3/sp800-63b.html#pstnOOB

Please explain how you just "make" loads run only when solar is present? A quick look at California's "Duck Curve" shows that isn't likely, and reinforces my original point. AC during the day is a major draw,

And tonight, it will generate 0%. Solar without batteries should be illegal; we are just creating a massive problem and doubling down on non-renewables. (Coal, gas, and nuclear plants can't shut down and start up that quickly.) Of co

HSR between LA and SF will never be able to compete with air travel, especially with how many stupid stops they are planning on. A flight takes ~1hr, plus another hour for TSA and whatnot. Rail will take several hours at best. Unless rail

Surprised nobody has mentioned NIST SP 800-63B §5.1.3.3. SMS based authentication is explicitly insecure and not allowed. https://pages.nist.gov/800-63-3/sp800-63b.html#pstnOOB
