I never suggested outlawing any industries. Just pointing out the flaws in his post. Our modern society is set up so that it takes our primal urges to the extreme, making it BAD for the individual, but probably good for the overall economy.

I didnt say he said those things explicitly. But by saying it's patriotic, he's assuming those things. Yes, it's based on my opinion. Yes, I'm generalizing, and I bet the majority of human beings on this earth would agree there are industri

He's making a few assumptions: 1) Government knows how to spend our money wisely on things that improve the quality of our lives 2) Getting rich equates to improving the quality of lives of society, as a whole. I know several industries whe

A point about vitamins vs painkillers. It's kind of ironic that we use this analogy because vitamins actually help prevent disease (well, some), while painkillers are just treating the symptom and not the root cause.

I agree with her ideas for the most part. You need tremendous scale to make something like ShopStyle profitable. But even if you sell stuff, it's hard to differentiate yourself from the crowd as well.. and if you do software for the back-en

They just want to position themselves to get acquired by Google. It's a smart strategy, I admit. Though I think Posterous is starting to become a solution in search of a problem.

Wouldn't it be wiser to wait until you see if you get fired, so you get the severance package? And if you don't, then get out?

I don't get why investment banks exists. I don't get why casinos exist. I don't get why cigarette companies exist. I don't get why Fannie Mae exists.

Do you think almost everything about modern society is unfit for humans? (granted, we have medicine, and other benefits, I know) Examples: 1) The stuff we eat isn't meant for us to digest (junk food, fast food). 2) Food was scarce in cavem

It's not just investment bankers that have an appetite for this. It's a human problem - greed, and short-term thinking. Given the right environment and rules, and most humans would act the same way. The key is to prevent that environment fr

Sentimental story, but at some point keeping memories of the past can be too painful. Better to try and forget and move on with life. Keeping in touch with the past helps for a short period, and can be therapeutic, but after awhile, it can

Inspiration can't trump genes, or biology. You need inspiration to work with your genes to produce positive action. If you hate your work, and hate working hard, inspiration won't work. It won't help you lose weight when you hate exercise,

A 41% drop is not that bad if you manage to get millions of visitors to a WebMD type site. It's horrible if you're Google and want to be a major competitor to Facebook, let's face it, you're supposed to continue growing, not slowing down gr

It means little to Hipmunk because they don't exactly have huge traction yet... They're more of a threat to Expedia or Orbitz. Hipmunk isn't even mainstream.

This recent discussion in Disrupt talks about the same issue: http://techcrunch.com/2011/09/12/max-levchin-and-peter-thiel... I think the low barriers to entry leads to so many social games, the next check-in app, trivial notification app

Yep, then you're not a valued user. Those who are willing to have a conversation are the users you want to keep because their interest level in your product is high. They're the ones most likely to buy, as well as spread the word.
